Ratan Tata, chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, died in a Mumbai hospital on Thursday. He was 86 years old. Two days ago, there was news in the media that he was ill, although he had said in a post that he was fine and there was nothing to worry about.
In a media statement, Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran said he was an extraordinary leader whose incomparable contributions have shaped not only the Tata Group but also the fabric of our nation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said- Ratan Tata ji was a visionary business leader and an extraordinary human being. He provided stable leadership to one of India’s oldest and most prestigious business houses. Additionally, his contributions went far beyond the boardroom.

Born on 28 December 1937, Ratan Tata was the great-grandson of Tata Group founder Jamsetji Tata. He was the chairman of the group from 1990 to 2012 and held the responsibility as interim chairman from October 2016 to February 2017. From 2017 till now, he was the head of Charitable Trusts of Tata Group.
Ratan Tata has taken his legacy to a new level. He included Air India in his empire. Foreign company Ford also added luxury car brands Landrover and Jaguar to its portfolio.
Ratan Tata was a book lover. He loved reading people’s success stories. In an interview, he had said that after retirement, he is now able to give time to his hobby. Ratan Tata liked little conversation since childhood. He used to talk to his colleagues only on formal and very important basis.
Apart from this he liked to listen to songs of 60’s and 70’s. In the interview he had said, ‘I would be very satisfied if I could play classical music. I like Shoppen. Symphony also sounds good. Like Beethoven, Tchaikovsky. But somewhere I feel that I wish I could play them on the piano myself.
When asked about cars, Tata had said that he is very fond of cars. He had said, ‘I am fond of both old and new cars. Especially he has a deep interest in his styling and his mechanics. That’s why I buy them, so I can read them.

Jamsetji Tata founded the group in 1868
Tata Group was founded by Jamsetji Tata in 1868. It is India’s largest multinational company, its 30 companies in 10 different businesses do business in more than 100 countries of the world.
Tata Sons is the principal investment holding and promoter of Tata companies. 66% of the equity share capital of Tata Sons is held by a charitable trust, which works for education, health, art and culture and livelihood generation.
In the financial year 2023-24, the total revenue of all Tata Group companies was $ 165 billion (Rs 13.86 lakh crore). According to the group, it provides employment to more than 10 lakh people.
