An outsider of the industry who used to find auditions through Facebook and Google. The audition takers used to say to your face that you will never be able to become an actor. Sometimes even if films were available, they were removed from it at the last moment. However, it was only through self-confidence that such difficulties did not crush his dreams.
We are talking about actor Kartik Aryan. The success story of Karthik, who hails from Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh and has become one of the biggest actors of Bollywood, is quite interesting. We are saying this because they did not get any support to reach here. The position they are at today is due to their years of struggle and strong willpower.
Story from struggle to success, in the words of Karthik himself…
Parents doctor, but the situation was not better Karthik belongs to a middle class family. His parents are doctors, despite this the financial condition of the family was not very good. Parents had to make a lot of sacrifices to meet the needs of Karthik and his sister.
This is the reason why Karthik gets a lot of motivation from his struggle. He considers his mother a fighter and follows her footsteps.
In childhood, I could not think of anything other than medicine and engineering. Since Karthik’s parents are doctors. Apparently, since childhood he was also told to either become a doctor or do engineering. However, Karthik was interested in films. He said, ‘In childhood, I used to say that I want to become a doctor or engineer.
However, while watching films, I did not realize when I started getting inclined towards acting. Movies were watched a lot in my house. Every weekend my sister and I used to sit in front of the TV. In childhood we had only two to three jobs. Watching movies, sports and going out and playing.
Took excuse of studies to go to Mumbai With increasing age, Karthik’s interest in acting increased further. Karthik decided that he had to enter the world of acting somehow, but for this he had to travel to the Maya city of Mumbai. Besides, some excuse was also needed to go there. What would you tell your family?
For this reason, he started the struggle to get admission in colleges in and around Mumbai. He wanted to come to Mumbai and study and also get the audition work done.
Traveled two and a half hours every day to give auditions. Were Karthik lived in a rented house at a place named Belapur in Navi Mumbai. From there he used to travel two and a half hours every day to reach Andheri. Most of the film auditions were held in Andheri.
Karthik used to take clothes with him. Used to look for a washroom somewhere at the audition venue so that we could change. Karthik was also stopped from giving auditions many times. Just because they reached there directly without any source.
Also worked in ad film, used to get heartbroken after getting rejection. Karthik told that he had also worked in many ad films before coming into the industry. Here too he had to struggle a lot to get work. He would just stand in front of the camera holding a plank. Didn’t get any big role. Also had to face a lot of rejection. Many times Karthik’s courage was broken. He used to cry also.
A fatal accident occurred the day the film was received. The time was between 2010-2011. Karthik’s stars started shining a little. He somehow reached the audition of Luv Ranjan’s film ‘Pyaar Ke Punchnama’. Got selected in the audition there. However, while returning from there he met with an accident.
He said, ‘While returning from the audition, the rickshaw in which I was sitting overturned. My leg was fractured. It felt like all the dreams were shattered there. I started thinking that I had got the film with great difficulty, now how will I be able to shoot. There was a fear that I might be thrown out of the film. However, when I requested the production team of the film, they extended the schedule by a few days.
Even after doing two films, he lived in a PG with 12 people. After doing ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’, Kartik did Luv Ranjan’s another film ‘Aakashvani’. He got considerable recognition from both of them. Especially his 5-minute monologue in ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’ became quite famous. However, even after doing two films, Karthik’s struggle continued. They still lived in the same PG with 12 people. Used to cook all the food for them.
The friends living with Karthik were mostly struggling actors. Karthik was not able to ask much money even from his parents. Therefore, sometimes he used to borrow from friends to meet the expenses.
Got real success in 2018, after this big films lined up Karthik got real success from the film ‘Sonu Ki Titu Ki Sweety’. This film made a box office collection of more than 100 crores. After this film he started getting big films. During the Covid era, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ earned more than Rs 260 crore and established Karthik as a commercial actor.
The dream was to live in a big house with parents. Karthik’s biggest dream was that he could live with his parents in a house in Mumbai city. Since the city was expensive, it was initially difficult to fulfill this dream. However, after getting some success, he first bought a house in Mumbai, where he now lives with his parents.
Shahrukh said on comparison with Akshay – Can’t even touch the level of both of them Karthik is compared with Shahrukh Khan and Akshay Kumar. Like these two superstars, Karthik is an outsider and is currently one of the biggest actors in the industry. Even though the audience and fans compare Karthik with Shahrukh and Akshay, Karthik himself has a different opinion on this matter.
He said, ‘There is no comparison for me with Akshay and Shahrukh sir. The journey of both of them has been quite big. Both of them have ruled the hearts of people for many years. I myself am a fan of both of them. I can’t touch his level. Yes, I also have an audience which likes me. I try to entertain them as much as possible.
Once upon a time we used to drive in a third hand car, today there are many cars including Mini Cooper, Lamborghini in the garage. Karthik currently has many cars including Mini Cooper and Lamborghini. However, during the days of struggle, he used to drive in a third hand car.
Talking about this he said, ‘I had bought a third hand car. It was such a car that no one would buy it even for free. Used it for many years. Well, I had no other option, I didn’t have much money to buy a good car. Just took it to run the errand.
