In the Diwali special episode of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 16’, Big B revealed about the challenges faced during the making of the film.
Big B shared an interesting story
He told why he needed to re-record the powerful dialogues of ‘Vijay’? Actually, after Varun Dhawan praised Amitabh Bachchan’s brilliant performance in the film ‘Agneepath’, ‘Big B’ shared this interesting anecdote.
‘The film is still incredible’
Varun Dhawan said, ‘The film is still incredible. Your character is fantastic. Film director Raj said, ‘You have been a hero for so many generations that even new actors try to capture your style in many scenes. I tell them that only you can truly embrace that character.
Why was the decision taken for voice modulation?
Varun then asks Big B, ‘As an actor I would love to know what was in your mind when you played the character of Vijay Dinanath Chauhan? How did you decide on voice modulation? Responding to this, the megastar said, ‘I will tell you one thing. Some things happen without planning. On the first day of shooting I could not understand how to portray that character. I was in the makeup room and I called Mukul Anand and suggested giving Vijay a deeper voice. He agreed and that’s how we decided on it.
‘Agneepath’ was directed by Mukul Anand.
Dialogues had to be dubbed again after the release of the film
Amitabh further said, ‘A man used to come to Kalyanji-Anandji’s house, whose voice was very heavy, so I thought, why not make Vijay’s voice the same way? ..The first shot of the character was inspired by that. However, when the film was released, the producer called and informed that there were problems in the theatre. The audience was tearing up seats and telling the sound department, ‘This doesn’t sound like Amitabh, fix the sound system!’ For this reason, Amitabh Bachchan had to re-dub the dialogues of Vijay Dinanath Chauhan.
The film could not make its budget
This film was made with a budget of Rs 28.5 crore and could earn only Rs 10 crore and was declared a failure at the box office. Amitabh had to face a lot of criticism for his voice in the beginning, but this role is one of his most memorable characters.
