Here are some special excerpts…
How was the journey from the beginning of your career to ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’?
It has been a very experience-filled journey so far. There have been a lot of ups and downs in a city like Mumbai. I never thought about films. I thought the world of films was very different. That’s why I want to make a career in television, but was never successful in television. I was either fired from the show or replaced.
When did you get your first chance on television, what was your experience like?
Just two months after coming to Mumbai, I got a chance in Balaji Telefilms’ show ‘Meri Aashiqui Tumse Hi’. I was very happy, but I didn’t know how shooting happened? Was very nervous while giving the first shot. Anil Sir (Anil V Kumar) was directing that show. He started scolding me so much that I started crying. After two months I was fired from the show.
How did you handle yourself when you were thrown out of the show?
At that time I did not feel bad at all. I was not able to perform properly. Why would any production house want to suffer losses? Even after that, my journey in television has been very sad. In every show I did, I was fired or replaced. Many shows were closed. Wherever I tried to do TV, this used to happen to me. I did a show ‘Hum Aapke Ghar Mein Rehte Hain’ for SAB TV. I had a lead role in this. I felt that now life is set. After four months, you got a call from production that you were being replaced. The channel is not happy with your work.
What did you do after that?
Narrow size I decided not to do TV anymore. I started trying for OTT and films. From there I started getting responses. I got a chance to work in ‘Drishyam 2’. There was only a small character in it, but that character was noticed. After this I worked in Luv Ranjan’s film ‘Wild Wild Punjab’. The best part was that this film was shot in my home town Chandigarh. This film was released on Netflix. After this I got a chance in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.
How did you get the opportunity in ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’?
I got this film through audition. The most memorable moment for me was meeting Madhuri ma’am (Madhuri Dixit) during the shooting of this film. I had never thought even in my dreams that I would perform with Madhuri ma’am. In this film I have played the character of Trupti Dimri’s sister. When I was doing this film, I didn’t tell anyone about it. I had faced so much rejection that I was afraid of what would happen. My parents had become used to hearing rejections. They were thinking that who knows what will happen with this?
When you initially told your parents about the acting profession, what was their reaction?
When I told my mother, she thought I had gone mad. Papa was not ready at all. I was working in Bangalore. Papa wanted me to do a job only. I was not happy with the job. Within seven months she had gone into complete depression. In those days my younger brother lived in Mumbai. She had come to Mumbai on the pretext of meeting him. If Bhaiya had not been there at that time, it would have been difficult for me.
How did you survive in Mumbai?
I have been anchoring concerts for the last ten years. This helped me a lot financially. Parents also remained calm because she was earning something. Otherwise she was very worried as to what she would be doing in Mumbai? The words of relatives were also very hurtful. Once called parents to Mumbai. Then she lived in a small room. It didn’t matter to him that I lived in a small room. He was very happy to see the atmosphere of Mumbai. Mumbai is a city where girls can roam around even at 2 o’clock in the night.
What did your relatives say to your parents?
Relatives used to harass the parents a lot by calling. They used to ask whether you saw it on TV yesterday or not today. What will she be doing in Mumbai? They used to say that she is ruining her life in Mumbai. Get her married. Hearing his words, parents also used to call and harass him a lot. When he came to Mumbai, he understood what he was doing.
When did you decide to make a career in acting?
When I used to watch films of Shahrukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla, I used to feel what kind of world this is. At that time everything seemed like a dream. Thinking about films in a city like Chandigarh was a big deal. I just thought about TV. I consider myself lucky that I got a chance to work in a film like ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’.
