Shahrukh Khan made it public on November 2, his birthday, that he had quit smoking. Bollywood’s King Khan Shahrukh Khan, who rules the hearts of millions of people, started smoking cigarettes at the age of 26 and continued smoking till the age of almost 59.
The best thing about Shahrukh quitting smoking is that this decision will give many of his fans the will power to quit smoking too.
The truth is that every smoker in the world knows that every puff of cigarette is harming his lungs. Negatively affecting all the organs of his body. Due to this, the risk of dangerous diseases like lung cancer, heart disease, stroke, asthma and COPD is increasing.
Shahrukh Khan has told that right now he is finding it difficult to breathe. This raises the question that after how many days does heart health start improving after quitting smoking? How long does it take for the body to recover from the damage caused by smoking?
According to the American Cancer Society, improvement begins within the next minute of quitting cigarettes. 20 minutes after smoking the last cigarette, our blood pressure starts becoming normal, heart rate also starts becoming normal.
However, how long it will take for complete healing of the heart depends on how long a person has been smoking and how many cigarettes he smokes in a day.
Today ‘medical certificate‘ I will know how long does it take to heal after smoking cigarettes. You will also learn that-
- How many people are dying in the country and the world due to smoking?
- The risk of which diseases increases due to smoking?
- How does our heart heal when we quit smoking?
Lakhs of people die every year due to smoking
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 1 in 5 deaths each year in the US is caused by cigarette smoking. Here every year 4 lakh 80 thousand people die due to smoking. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), every year more than 80 lakh people across the world die at an early age due to smoking. Every year in India, more than 10 lakh people die due to smoking.
The risk of which diseases increases due to smoking?
Cigarette smoke passes through our lungs and reaches the heart. After this it gets absorbed into the blood through the heart. This smoke reaches our vital organs like brain and kidneys through blood. It affects the functioning of all organs. Apart from this, the carcinogens present in the smoke later cause cancer.
Smoking increases the risk of many other fatal diseases, see the graphic:
Dr. Devendra Shrimal, Director of Cardiology Department at Narayana Hospital, Jaipur, says that there is only one way to avoid these dangerous diseases – quitting smoking. If this question repeatedly comes to your mind that after how many days will it take for you to quit smoking, your heart will become like before, then let us understand it through some graphics given below.
First of all blood pressure is normal
Blood pressure increases due to the presence of nicotine in cigarettes. There are many other reasons for increasing blood pressure, such as smoke gets deposited in the walls of blood vessels, causing the vessels to become narrow. This also increases the risk of blood clotting. Therefore the heart has to work harder to move blood. This increases blood pressure.
When we quit smoking, we stop getting nicotine, the main cause of blood pressure. Therefore it gradually becomes normal. Heart rate also becomes normal due to absence of nicotine. This process starts within half an hour after smoking the last cigarette.
After about 12 to 24 hours, the level of dissolved monoxide in our blood also starts decreasing due to cigarette smoke. This reduces the risk of heart attack. See in the graphic what healing happens in the body in the next 2-3 weeks and 1 to 9 months:
After one year the risk of heart disease and cancer halves
The risk of diseases like cancer, heart disease and asthma increases many times more in people who smoke than in other people. If a person quits smoking, the risk of coronary heart disease is halved within a year of healing. This means that our heart and body recover half of its capacity in just one year.
Heart and body become the same in 10 to 15 years
After 10 years of quitting smoking, the risk of death from lung cancer is halved compared to smokers. The risk of bladder cancer and cervical cancer also reduces by almost half.
If about 15 years have passed since quitting smoking, the risk of coronary heart disease remains the same as that of people who do not smoke.
how to quit smoking
To quit smoking, first of all we have to find a motivation, on the basis of which we can convince ourselves that we want to quit smoking. It could be anything. Like we do not want our children to be passive smokers. Want to live a healthy life ahead.
After this, it has to be seen on which emotional triggers we turn towards smoking. By controlling them it will become easier to quit smoking. Apart from this, we also have to take care of trigger foods. These can increase the craving to smoke cigarettes.
Apart from this, carefully observe and follow the points given in the graphic below. If you are a smoker then take a pledge to become free from this poisonous habit today itself.
