The fourth generation model of Maruti Suzuki Dezire will be launched in India on November 11.
Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming sedan Dezire has received a 5-star rating in the Global NCAP crash test. The agency released the crash test results on Friday (November 8). According to GNCAP, Dezire has got 31.24 out of 34 points for adult and 39.20 out of 49 points for child safety.
This is the first car from Maruti, which has received 5 star rating for adult and 4 star rating for child safety from any crash test agency. Earlier, Maruti’s Brezza had got the highest 4 star safety rating. At the same time, the third generation Dezire got only 2 star safety rating in the crash test.
The company is preparing to launch the fourth generation model of its best-selling sedan on November 11. Maruti Suzuki India recently revealed the new Dezire sedan in the Indian market. After this, the company itself sent it for crash test in Global NCAP.

Maruti Dezire: Adult Occupant Protection Crash Test
- Frontal Impact Test – In the frontal impact test conducted at a speed of 64kmph, Dezire got 13.23 points out of 16. In this, the driver’s chest protection has been described as ‘marginal’, while the passenger’s chest protection has been described as ‘adequate’. At the same time, the knee and head protection of the driver and passenger has been described as ‘good’, while the thigh protection has been described as ‘adequate’. Its footwell area and bodyshell integrity are said to be ‘stable’.
- Side Impact Test – The sedan was tested in a side impact test at a speed of 50kmph, in which it scored 16 out of 16. In this test, the head, chest, abdomen and pelvic area got ‘good’ protection.
- Side Pole Impact Test – In this test, the safety of the driver’s head, stomach and hips was found to be good. At the same time, the safety of the chest was said to be marginal. Based on the performance of these three tests, Maruti Dezire got 31.24 points out of 34 in the adult protection category, which is enough for a 5 star safety rating.
Maruti Dezire: Child Occupant Protection Crash Test
- Frontal Impact Test – During this test, the dummy of a 3-year-old child was made to sit facing forward, in which the head and neck part got complete protection, but in the test conducted from the front, the neck part got limited protection. During the crash test, an 18-month-old baby dummy was installed on the seat facing backwards, which provided complete protection to the head.
- Side Impact Test – In this test, the child restraint system of both the dummies provided complete protection. Dezire scored 39.20 points out of 49 in the child protection category, which is enough to get a 4 star crash test rating in this category.
Crash test process
1. For the test, 4 to 5 human-like dummies are seated in the car. There is a child dummy in the back seat, which is fixed to the child ISOFIX anchor seat.
2. The vehicle is collided with an offset deformable barrier (hard object) at a fixed speed to see how much damage is done to the vehicle and the dummy. This is done in three ways.
- In the frontal impact test, the car is hit with a barrier at a speed of 64 kmph.
- In the side impact test, the vehicle is hit with a barrier at a speed of 50 kmph.
- In the pole side impact test, the car will be seen hitting a pole at a fixed speed. If the car achieves 3 star rating in the first two tests, the third test is conducted.
3. In the test, it is seen how much damage was done to the dummy after the impact, whether the airbags and safety features worked or not. Rating is given on the basis of all these.
