Reliance Jio, one of the big telecom companies, has seen a decline in its subscribers in September. The company has suffered a loss of approximately 79.7 lakh subscribers. This is indicating a big change in the telecom sector. However, government telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) got about 8.5 lakh new customers in September.

According to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) data, Bharti Airtel, the second largest telecom company, lost about 14.3 lakh subscribers in September. Vodafone Idea, which has been facing financial difficulties for the last few years, has lost more than 15 lakh subscribers. This has been one of the highest monthly decline months for Reliance Jio. A few months ago, private telecom companies had increased their tariffs. Since then the subscribers of these companies have decreased. BSNL is getting the benefit of affordable tariff plans and better connectivity in rural areas.

Recently BSNL launched the service of Wi-Fi roaming across the country for its Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) subscribers. With this, the company’s FTTH subscribers will be able to connect to Wi-Fi hotspots across the country. With this service, the company’s subscribers will be able to get internet connectivity even while traveling and their data costs will reduce. With this, they will be able to access BSNL Wi-Fi hotspots without any extra charge. Once registered, subscribers will be able to easily locate and connect to the company’s Wi-Fi roaming network. BSNL has also started testing 5G network. Its target is to launch one lakh 4G sites by the end of the current financial year.

Earlier, BSNL had informed about launching the first fiber based intranet service. This TV service has been started in selected areas of the country. Last month, the company introduced this service called IFTV with its new logo and six new features. The company’s fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network will be used for this service. With the new IFTV service, BSNL customers in Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu will be able to watch more than 500 live TV channels in high streaming quality. Apart from this, it will also offer pay TV content and some other live TV services.
