Mumbai. Mohammed Rafi, one of the most iconic singers of Indian cinema, was recently honored at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) held in Goa. During the session named ‘Aasmaan Se Aaya Farishta – A Tribute to Mohammed Rafi – King of Melody’, Singer Sonu Nigam, Mohd. Talked about Rafi’s versatility and unique artistry. Sonu told that Rafi used to match his voice and style with the actors. Every actor used to fit his voice.

Sonu Nigam said, “This person is singing ‘Hum Kale Hain To Kya Hua Dilwale Hain’, and is also singing ‘Sar Jo Tera Chakarae Ya Dil Dooba Jaaye’. His voice also suited Dilip Kumar, Johnny Walker, Mehmood and Rishi Kapoor.” Sonu said that Rafi’s voice complemented the different personalities on screen. Throwing light on his versatility, Sonu also commented on Rafi’s ability to transform while performing devotional songs.

Sonu Nigam said that Mohammed Rafi looked like a staunch Hindu.

Sonu Nigam said, “When he sings bhajans, it seems like a staunch Hindu is singing. He is a Muslim, a praying man. How does their religious conversion take place in singing?” Sonu also expressed surprise at Rafi’s amazing artistic ability to express any genre or emotion. This is a big thing, not everyone can do this.
