Akshay Kumar is one of the few Bollywood actors who is known for the subjects of films. Akshay mostly does films dealing with taboo subjects or giving social messages, but now if the actor is to be believed, he does not get returns from these films. The actor said that he can earn 3-4 times more by doing masala films, but still he prefers to make films on taboo subjects.
Recently, in ANI’s podcast, Akshay Kumar talked about making films on taboo subjects and film selection. He has said, this is my way of giving back to the society. I know that if I make films like Suryavanshi, Singh is King and Rowdy Rathore, I will earn 3-4 times more. I can do this easily. I can do Welcome, Bhagam Bhaag, but if you ask me from my heart, I enjoy doing films like Airlift, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. I made Toilet: Ek Prem Katha on Toilet. There are so many things which are ingrained in the society, which are taboo, have become like habits, people do not change their habits. I feel like making those films.
Didn’t get profit from making film on taboo subject
Akshay has further said that he incurs losses on making films on taboo subjects, but still he likes to make such films. The actor said on this, the money does not come back to me, but it is not about money. I know the business is also not that good, but if you are sitting in front of me and saying that you saw the film and you liked it, but does anyone have the courage to make a film on masturbation or sex education? Please tell me if any actor has made it. Whether you see it here (in Bollywood) or in Hollywood.
During the conversation, Akshay Kumar was asked whether he does not take money for doing such films. On this the actor said, I produce myself. So how will I take the money myself? Whatever the film earned was my earning and if it didn’t earn then it was not earned.
