Raj Kapoor, known as the showman of Indian cinema, was such a personality about whom many stories are famous. Singer-composer Satish Dehra had a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar on the showman’s 100th birth anniversary. Satish Dehra told that Raj Saheb often used to reach late in any program. When the organizers of the program asked the reason for coming late, Raj Saheb used to say that I am not late, I just get late. On this point of Raj Saheb, Ravindra Jain prepared a song for the film ‘Hina’.

Raj Kapoor had already finalized Hina’s songs
Raj Kapoor Sahab was going to direct the film ‘Hina’, but after his death the film was directed by his elder son Randhir Kapoor. Raj Kapoor Saheb had already finalized many songs of this film. One of the songs is ‘Main Deer Karta Nahi Deer Ho Jaati’. Singer-composer Satish Dehra says- I also had the privilege of singing this song with Suresh Wadkar and Lata Mangeshkar ji.
Used to discuss musical ragas with the music teacher at home.
Satish Dehra told that after Raj Kapoor Saheb, no one like him will come to mind, such a person will not come for ages. Dadu (Ravindra Jain) used to say about him that Raj Saheb was a great expert in music. He used to hum every song. Music teachers used to come to his house. Used to discuss with him about musical ragas.
Was confused about the title of the film
When Raj Sahab announced ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’, he was very confused about the title of the film. They wondered how they could call Ganga dirty. The question in his mind was whether people would accept this title? Then Ravindra Jain made a face that ‘Ram, your Ganga has become dirty while washing away the sins of the sinners’. Raj Saheb became very happy after hearing this statement. He felt that now he would be able to do proper justice to this film.
Got inspiration to make a film after listening to ‘Ek Radha Ek Meera’
Raj Kapoor Sahab got inspiration to make ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’ from the song ‘Ek Radha Ek Meera’ sung by Ravindra Jain. Satish Dehra says- Ravindra Jain had sung a song ‘Ek Radha Ek Meera’ in a program in Delhi. Raj Kapoor Saheb was also present in that program. After listening to the song, Raj Saheb asked Divya ji (Ravind Jain’s wife) from which film the song was. He had said that this is not a song from any film but his own song. Influenced by the same song, Raj Saheb wrote the story of ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’.
Raj Saheb wondered how Ravind Jain would be able to make romantic songs.
At the time of ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’, Ravindra Jain had recorded songs for Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana. Satish Dehra tells- Dadu had said that once he had made Raj Saheb listen to the song of Ramanand Sagar Saheb’s ‘Ramayana’. Raj Saheb was very happy and also worried. He felt that if he had made such a good song for Ramayana, then how would he be able to make a romantic song for his film?
Ravindra Jain was taken to Kashmir so that he could compose romantic songs.
Raj Saheb took Dadu to Kashmir. Dadu thought that Raj Saheb would do music seating there, but there was no talk of music seating for a week. Then Dadu reminded Raj Saheb about doing music sitting. Raj Saheb said that he will do music in Mumbai only. I brought it here so that I could get Ramayana out of my mind and make romantic songs.
