This hydrogen-electric air taxi has been built by Joby Aviation. The company is currently testing its prototype. According to a Live Science report, the company says that hydrogen-based electric air taxis can offer such journeys in the future, which will be emission-free. Long distance travel can be done with them. The special thing was that even after the flight, 10 percent of hydrogen fuel was left in the air taxi, which means it could have flown more.
VTOL can do air taxi
Joby Aviation’s air taxi was flown last month on June 24. The company says that its air taxi can do VTOL i.e. vertical takeoff and landing.
Air taxi has been modified
Joby Aviation has modified its air taxi. It has been converted into a hydrogen-electric aircraft. It is claimed that it can be used in urban areas. Earlier this air taxi was only electric, the company has flown many flights of it and has done flight testing of about 40 thousand kilometers. Later the engineers converted the electric aircraft into a hydrogen-electric aircraft. It can store 40 kg of liquid hydrogen.
Joby Aviation hopes to soon receive the necessary approvals from the US Federal Aviation Administration.
