Aamir said that he does not agree with Shahrukh. In a conversation with BBC’s Asian Network, Aamir said, ‘No, I do not agree with Shahrukh, I do not, because the film Lagaan was of 3 hours 42 minutes and there were 6 songs in it. Despite it being such a long film, it got a nomination. To be nominated, members must like your film. The film Lagaan proved that a film which has so many songs, which is also very long, can also get an Oscar nomination. Academy members have no problem with the film. According to me, it depends on how good your work is and how much you are able to touch people’s hearts.
Competition is tough for Indian films- Aamir
Aamir further said that the Best International Feature category is the most difficult category of the Oscars. Because when you enter the competition for the best film, there are only limited films in it. Therefore the competition becomes quite tough. Because every country has its best films in this category.
‘One has to beat 1000 films to get selected’
He further said, ‘In India we make 1000 films every year, to get selected in India you have to beat the first 1000 films. Then you get to where there are 80 more movies. India does not get nomination every year because films from Iran, Germany, France and all over the world come there.
Shahrukh had said that we will have to change
In an old conversation, Shahrukh had said, Lagaan was a combination of art film and commercial film. And it was a very well made film. This was the reason why the film was nominated for Oscar. We will have to change the format of our films. If I am invited to your party, I have to dress as per the dress code of that party. I can’t run my code of two and a half hours and five songs, we have to change this.
Missing Ladies gets entry in Oscars
Let us tell you, Aamir Khan’s Lagaan is the last film which got nomination in the Best International Feature category at the Oscars.
