Kangana Ranaut’s film Emergency will be released on January 17. The film also stars Shreyas Talpade, who will be seen in the role of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In such a situation, Shreyas Talpade had a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar. He said that it is a great honor for him to play the character of Atal ji.
How did you get associated with the film Emergency?
Kangana Ranaut first saw the reflection of Atal ji in me and contacted me. Then I heard the whole story, read the script and got ready. It was an honor for me to play the character of Atal ji, so there was no question of saying no.
What kind of preparations did you do to play the character of Atal ji?
We have known Atal ji since the 90s. Especially around 91 and 92. After that get to know them better. But very few people know about his life before this. This story is of the 70s, especially during the Emergency of 75, so how was Atal ji at that time? First of all I got information about it and studied a little. During this period, Kangana also helped me a lot. I think two things are important. Kangana’s research and homework was very good. She was completely clear about every little detail. Not only about the character of Atal ji, but about every character.
What did you like special about Kangana Ranaut’s direction?
When the director comes fully prepared, the actor also enjoys working even more. This is Kangana’s biggest strength. She was completely prepared, especially for the scale of the film and this kind of story. She was not only producing it but also acting. I was surprised to see his preparation and I felt that he had made a film which is of international level. When you compare it with any big film, you will realize that this film is truly international.
How was the experience of shooting for Emergency?
The shooting experience was very good. As it often happens, we first prepare and go to the set and then try to perform the dialogues. But Kangana’s method was a little different. She used to go close to the actor and calmly explain to him what to do and this method was very special. Sometimes directors speak on the mic. But Kangana used to explain in a very calm manner. When we were rehearsing and the dialogues were being rehearsed, Kangana used to watch carefully and if I did something too much, she used to say – ‘Whatever you did in the rehearsal, only looked good.’ I think there is a need for a director who notices even the smallest things.
How do you see your journey?
My journey has been very fun. When I started, my family had no connection with the industry. I started with theater but never thought that I would work in films. Especially in the lead role. First he got small roles in Marathi films, then he started getting lead roles and then he started working in Hindi films. It was like a dream. Working with big names in the industry and being a part of some hit films.
