Aditi Govitrikar, who was Mrs. World, never took the acting profession seriously. When Yash Chopra called her after the Gladrags Megamodel competition, she did not go to meet him. Aditi still regrets this. She considers this to be the biggest mistake of her life. Although, later he did some films, but acting was a parallel field for him. His entire focus was on medical and modeling only.

Recently Aditi Govitrikar came to Dainik Bhaskar office in Mumbai. He shared things related to his upcoming projects, career and life.

What are you doing at this time?

The web series ‘Mismatched Season 3’ will stream on Netflix from December 13. This is a very popular series. Its story line was first on youngsters. The troubles in their relationship and life were highlighted. Now some more things will be seen in it, in this I have played the role of Rohit Saraf’s mother. When I get married for the second time, my son takes me to the wedding hall. The maker has also chosen such topics in it.

Recently a series ‘Life Khil Gayi’ was released on Disney Hot Star. Apart from this, I have started Marvelous Mrs. India. Married, widowed and divorced women participate in it. Its second season was released in October. Currently, preparations for its third season are going on.

What was your thinking behind starting Marvelous Mrs. India?

When I participated in Mrs. World. At that time my daughter was one year old. People used to tell me that you are married. Why think about this now? Your career is going well. If people come to know about the marriage, then you will not get work in the glamor field. At that time people thought that after marriage and child, career in glamor field ends.

I was thinking that if people give me work based on my personal status, then it is wrong. I had a medical degree. If I don’t get work in the glamor field, I will go into the medical field. With that thought I participated in Mrs. World and I won. Then people in our country came to know that there is something like Mrs. World.

I want to give a platform to women who are dreaming of becoming something in life. To give proper respect to women, I started Marvelous Mrs. India Beauty Pageant. So that I can celebrate the journey of those women who want to do something in life.

How has your Mrs. World journey been?

In 2001, women from 47 countries participated in the Mrs. World contest. The entire families of many women had come at the time of the finale. There was no one from my family. Ritesh Deshmukh had come on the request of a common friend of mine. I didn’t recognize him at that time. At that time he was studying in New York, but I was happy to know that someone from India was there.

Have you thought of trying your luck in the glamor field?

Since childhood I wanted to become a doctor. My father was very strict. He had said that if he did not come on merit, he would not donate for admission in a private college. My entire focus was on studies. I scored good marks and got admission in JJ Medical College.

My mother was very fond of watching films. I grew up in Panvel, the railway station there was very popular for shooting. She used to go there with her mother to watch the shooting. I didn’t even remember. Mom used to say that she used to take me in her lap to watch shootings, but the thought of becoming an actor and model never came to my mind.

Then how did the idea of becoming a model and actor come to you?

I love new challenges. I enjoy making friends with people from different fields. This increases our knowledge. I had gone to visit Lonavala with a photographer friend of mine. I was sitting, suddenly he looked at me and said that your body language is like a model. He shot some photos of me. His father worked in an ad agency. He advised me to do modelling.

I participated in the Gladrags Megamodel contest in 1996 and won. Yash Chopra, Hema Malini, Shobha De were the judges in that competition. Yash Chopra ji had asked to meet. I was not interested in films at that time. That’s why I didn’t go to meet him. That was the biggest mistake of my life. I must have met such a great personality. Getting or not getting work in films was a different matter. Well, even after this I kept getting offers for films and I kept refusing.

But then when did you feel that you should try your luck in acting?

When offers for acting were coming in, I thought why not give it a try? In 1999 I worked with Pawan Kalyan in the Telugu film ‘Thammudu’. This film was a super hit. I should have stayed there, but came back. I did many Hindi films like ’16 December’, ‘Soch’, ‘De Dana Dan’, but my focus remained on modelling.

How has been the experience of working in Bollywood, why did you stay away after working in many films?

One reason for that is that I have never been focused on acting. If I liked the roles in the films that came to me, I did them. I never approached anyone for films. Acting was my parallel field. My entire focus was on medical and modeling only. Acting continued along with it, but there were not one or two good experiences in it.

What has been the biggest struggle in life?

Whole life is a struggle. My personal life was not successful. It took me a long time to get over it. I wouldn’t like to talk about it now, but I never felt like a failure. Always wanted to be successful in life. There was never any struggle in the film industry, because I had the option that if I did not get success here, then there is the medical field.

You were talking about personal life. What is the reason that distance arises between husband and wife after marriage?

There are no guarantees in a relationship, but there should be awareness. There should be understanding between two persons in a relationship. We move forward slowly in our life. Changes keep happening physically and mentally. If this change does not happen, then there is suffering. The biggest problem today is mobile phones. Many relationships are breaking because of this.
