New Delhi. In the year 1990, a film starring new stars was released, whose songs were a huge hit, not just because of the story. This film was Rahul Roy and Anu Agarwal starrer ‘Aashiqui’. The Delhi High Court has given a verdict to stop the use of the title of the film and the word ‘Aashiqui’. The High Court has clearly stated that the use of this word by T-Series can create confusion among the public and the ‘Aashiqui’ brand can be weakened.
Mukesh Bhatt gave his opinion on this matter after the court’s decision. Talking to Times of India, he said, ‘The story of this film was written with complete honesty. We did not depend on any kind of star system to make that film. We decided to complete it with new stars. Then new music directors Nadeem-Shravan composed the music of the film, which became a cult.’ It took 21 years to make its sequel and unfortunately, Gulshan Kumar passed away. After this Bhushan Kumar came to me and said – let’s make something with what you have made with my father.
He further said, ‘I have made ‘Aashiqui 2’ with the same values with which I made the first film. I have so much experience about films that I know what to do and what not to do. Mahesh Bhatt further said that I have been in this business for 50 years, unfortunately Bhushan does not have that experience yet.
He did not understand the core values of ‘Aashiqui’. He was unknowingly doing more to harm it than to make it better and the idea was only to protect the franchise.’
Mukesh Bhatt further said that he needs to protect the franchise because Bhushan Kumar is not understanding its core values and is harming it. ‘Aashiqui’ as a franchise belongs to the audience. If ‘Aashiqui’ dies, love dies, music dies. The court was the only way to save it, so I went to court. So that the franchise can be prevented from causing further damage.
The judge said that it has important cultural values and it is a brand that resonates with people. It was not just about T-Series, it was about protecting the brand so that it is not misused or misinterpreted. Many others were also putting out a lot of fake news about ‘Aashiqui’. There was a lot of confusion among the public, so the decision brought some sense. Talking about the next installment of ‘Aashiqui 3’, Mukesh Bhatt concluded, ‘Aashiqui’ has to be made in the same way the first two parts have been made – ‘with a lot of love and purity. Only then, you will be able to connect with it.
