On September 30, Malti Verma, a resident of Agra, received WhatsApp calls 10 times in 8 minutes on her mobile. Every time Malti received threats that her daughter was caught in a sex racket. Malti Verma was so frightened by this incident that she died of a heart attack.
The second major incident of digital arrest happened with SP Oswal, CMD of the country’s well-known industrialist Vardhaman Group.
Cyber thug told SP Oswal on phone that there is an arrest warrant of the Supreme Court in his name. Also, an order has been received to seal his property. Regarding this, the swindler also sent him some fake documents. Cyber thugs kept SP Oswal under digital arrest for two days and defrauded him of Rs 7 crore. The incidents of digital arrest in the country have increased very rapidly in recent times. The main reason for this is lack of awareness among people.

answer- Digital arrest is blackmailing done over WhatsApp calls, in which cyber thugs, wearing police uniform or posing as government department officials, torture people emotionally and mentally. Cyber fraudsters make people believe that something bad has happened or is about to happen to them or one of their family members. Since the person sitting in front is in police uniform, most of the people get scared. After this they keep falling into their trap.

Therefore, first of all make some changes in the settings of your WhatsApp, so that if a call comes from an unknown number, you only receive notifications. After this, keep these things in mind.
- Do not pick up any suspicious calls coming on WhatsApp, Facebook or Instagram.
- If you have picked up the phone, don’t panic. Just don’t share your personal and financial information.
- In case of initial doubt, disconnect the phone immediately. Avoid long conversations on the phone.
- Be sure to immediately verify the call coming from an unknown number with an app like TrueCaller.

answer- The Telecom Department has launched Chakshu portal to stop fake calls and messages on WhatsApp. On this portal you can report suspicious messages, calls or spam calls on WhatsApp. Follow these steps to make a complaint.
- First of all go to the official website of Sanchar Sathi Portal.
- After this click on the option of ‘Citizen Centric Services’.
- Click on ‘Report Suspected Fraud Communication’.
- After this go to the option of ‘Continue For Reporting’.
- Now the form page will open. Fill the details of fake call or message in it.
- There will be a fraud list in the form. Click on the option regarding your complaint.
- Also upload the screenshot of fake call or message in it.
- Finally write your mobile number and name.
- Submit it after captcha code and OTP verification.
