How does this feature work?
Apple’s AccordingThe For Your Kids function on Apple Watch allows children to connect with family and friends, provided they have a cellular version of Apple’s smartwatch. They can take advantage of the smartwatch’s communication, health, fitness, and safety features with certain safeguards. For calling, parents can pre-approve the contacts they want for their children to access from their Apple Watch.
Apple Watch For Your Kids also brings safety features like Emergency SOS, Apple Maps to find their way home, and Find People to locate family members or share their current location with them.
Kids can also track fitness activities through the Activity Ring and create goals for different workouts. They can challenge their friends by sending them Activity Sharing invites. Parents can monitor all the activities reported from their iPhone.
Apart from these features, it comes equipped with a dedicated Schooltime mode that appears as a special yellow circle on the Apple Watch face for easy identification. When enabled, it blocks notifications, restricts apps, and turns on DND. According to Apple, this mode can be toggled manually, while parents can also schedule it via their iPhone.
Apple says the feature is available to users who have Apple Watch Series 4 or any subsequent version, or Apple Watch SE Apple Watch is compatible with iPhone 8 or later with the latest watchOS and iOS. Apple Watch requires a wireless service plan to activate cellular service.
According to Apple, the Apple Watch For Your Kids feature can offer up to 14 hours of battery life on a single charge, depending on the smartwatch model.
