A new war is starting in the country’s automotive industry. Competition has started between traditional motor engine companies and new energy vehicle companies to capture the electric vehicle market. A glimpse of this is being seen in the ongoing Bharat Mobility Global Expo in Bharat Mandapam. Here, traditional motor companies like Maruti, Hyundai Motors, Kia Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra have also launched EVs.

The special trend seems to be that the real fight is to capture the premium segment. Of the total 20 cars launched at the expo, more than 90% are EVs. This segment also has 80% SUVs. The reason for this is premiumization. The balance sheets of companies are also improving due to the sale of premium products. In 2024, vehicle sales in the country increased by only 4%, but the income of auto companies increased by 7%. The income of 7 big companies increased by more than 10% due to the sales of premium segment, especially SUVs.

7 Trend: Cars will help in safe driving, auto mode will keep the driver free

  • Quick Charging: Most companies are offering. That means a range of 50-80 km in 20 minutes of charging. Mercedes-Benz’s concept car gets fully charged in 25 minutes.
  • Long Range: About 15 such cars have been launched, which are giving a range of 500 to 700 km. Currently, EVs with 400 to 500 km range have 42% share in the country.
  • AI based cars: Cars will adapt to the driver’s behavior. That means if the driving is rough then the car will know how long the battery or fuel will last. Will also tell the nearest charging station. Music, lights and other features will stop until the vehicle reaches the specified distance.
  • Safety Features: Cars will be able to control themselves if the driver dozes off or becomes drowsy. In case of an accident, the family members will get alert directly. Many companies have launched cars with more than 11 airbags.
  • The vehicle will replace the driver: Adock systems will keep drivers free so they can enjoy. Use of autonomous systems will increase. Even in emergency, the vehicle will take its own decisions.
  • Software is the real power: Advanced chip set connected vehicles will increase. Software will drive the market. The more features required in the vehicle, the higher will be the premium. That means the importance of hardware will be limited in many ways.
  • EV infra will be strengthened: Charging infrastructure will grow rapidly with the entry of traditional car companies and companies that dominate the auto industry, as they already have a large and strong infrastructure.

The trend of EV manufacturing is going to increase
