Bhumika Meena is an emerging star in the industry. Currently, she is seen in the lead role in ‘Chidiya Ud’ in the Amazon MX Player’s show. In this show, Bhumika has got a chance to work with veterans from Jackie Shroff, Mita Vashistha and Sikander Kher.

In a conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, Bhumika has shared her journey from a doctor to becoming an actor. Major parts of the talks with Bhumika…

Question- Your character in ‘bird flying’ is of sex worker. Tell us about the preparation and challenges of the roll.

Answer- I believe that as an actor, our preparation starts long before getting the role. When I had decided that I had to become an actor, at that time I thought that I did not keep anything in backup. I just have to focus on acting. I have taken training with different teachers. I have done a lot of research for the role of Sahar. I came to know many shocking things in research. I also went to Kamathipura two or three times. On fields could not do much research due to Kovid. The understanding of my understanding about sex workers has more role in online research and documentary. My mother has been in the village, she also told me many stories. There were many challenges to play this role, but when you are new, they also give you excitement.

The role in ‘Chidiya Ud’ is seen in the lead role.

Question- When have you decided to become an actor?

Answer- I always wanted to become an actor. But did not think about it in Jaipur. I studied medical in Parents’ Influence. In a place like Jaipur, people see the actor as a hero-heroine, not an actor. But I dared to become an actor after coming to Delhi. When I started being independent. My childhood was good, I studied in the country’s renowned school-college. I was good in studies, dance, public speaking, debates. I was also famous in my clinic. Even after everything was right, I was not happy from inside. I felt something missing in my ambition. I went to understand that confusion. I got the clarity about my ambition from it. I used to do theater even during college but after Vipassana I took the theater seriously. I started to find out the nuances of acting, how to audition, who is the casting director in Delhi. In this way my acting journey started.

Question- When you told the parents that you have to act and go to Mumbai, what was the reaction?

Answer- After completing MBBS studies, I decided that now he has to do acting. I did not do any backup, then I told my parents. And what should I tell their reaction? Things were not easy for me. My parents are both doctors. Acting can never be a career for him. He was shocked by my decision. They could not understand how a made-made career could leave. I saw my mother crying for her reason. I was the child of the house, whose examples were given to other children. But one of this decision made me a great disappointment for him. But I was so passionate for acting that I shifted to Mumbai without celebrating them. Today, when I have played the lead, my mother advises me to do PG. Parents are still not convened by my choice.

The role is from Jaipur. His parents are government doctors. Bhumika has also studied medical.

Question- How was your experience after coming to Mumbai?

Answer- In the beginning I also faced all the challenges that anyone does in the new city. I brought 6 months savings from Delhi. Initially I found a house in sharing. Then something happened there that I had to leave home. Where should I go, I had no option. Then the arrival of lockdown, not getting support from parents, rejecting in the audition was going on all these things were going on. Even after all this, Mumbai was feeling my place. I am still rejected today, but I was ready before all these things and I am still today.

Question- When did you get your first break?

Answer- Three and a half years after coming to Mumbai, I got my first short film ‘Chudeani’. Before that I had done small eds. But the story of getting the first ed film is very funny. I used to share room with 5-6 girls in Malad. In such a situation, I went out to find a flat one day. As an actor, I used to come out with formal, Indian and casual clothes in my bag that I do not know when the call came. I was in auto, then I came to a message that we are auditioning, you come. It was just 3-4 days since I came to Mumbai. When I arrived for audition, there were 50-60 people in a small room. I was told that your look looks right according to the character. Then I auditioned and I was selected. Then after that I did not get work for a long time.

Question- You worked in projects like ‘Chidiya Ud’, ‘Shop’, ‘Slum Golf’, ‘Ruke’. Do you think the start is good?

Answer- Yes, I am very thankful for this. The role of Sahar gets the role of actresses after doing a lot of work. I am lucky to get a chance to do this within five years of career. That too with veteran actor like Jackie Shroff, Sikander Kher, Mita Vashistha. From Jackie sir, I learned that people should keep heart big for people. Even after being such a big star, he meets with so much familiarity. I think the industry has adopted me with great love.

Bhumika has made many big eds. She has also appeared in ads with Sara Ali Khan, Varun Dhawan.

Question- Where do you see themselves in future?

Answer- My dreams are very big. When she was leaving medical, she was very scared but now I feel free. I want to set new heights in acting. ‘Bird Ud’ has given a new flight to my career. Soon another project of mine is coming, which I am very excited about.
