Teach your child the difference between right and wrong

The biggest problem children face is that they do not know the difference between right and wrong. They are so simple and honest that they accept everyone as their own. What should a child do if someone touches him inappropriately?

The most important thing is to teach children what they should do immediately if someone touches them inappropriately or they do not feel good, at home, at school, at a relative’s house or anywhere else.

Our responsibility does not end by just teaching children the definition of good touch and bad touch. We have to tell them every action step by step that what the child should do immediately whenever he feels something wrong.

It is also the school’s responsibility to tell children about safety

Apart from the important things given above, always keep these things in mind-

Parents should understand the signals of their children

  • If in your house a relative is touching the child with a feeling of love or is holding him tightly and the child does not like it, is getting irritated, is refusing, then immediately stop that relative from doing so.
  • This can be a little awkward. Especially when you know that the person touching the child lovingly has absolutely right feelings. But the thing to understand here is that the child does not like this and the child’s consent is most important.
  • Just like we cannot touch adults without their consent, children too have their own rights and agency and we adults should always respect that.
  • Do not touch or kiss the child with excessive love and affection without the child’s consent, nor let anyone else do so.
  • Pay attention to the child’s behavior and his body language. Whenever you feel that the child is sad, quiet, not talking, then talk to him. Children do not know how to articulate themselves, so it is the responsibility of us adults to understand their signals.
  • If the child is afraid of going to school, try to find out the reason, talk to his teacher.
  • Talk to the child every day, like how was his day, whom did he meet, with whom did he have dinner today.
  • Make your child remember your home address and mobile number in case of emergency so that he/she can tell you when needed.
