Bobby Deol’s acting career started at the age of just 6, when he worked as a child artist in his father’s film Dharam Veer released in 1977. In 1995, Bobby started his career as a hero with the film Barsaat, made under the banner of his father Dharmendra’s production house Vijeta Films. Twinkle Khanna was also seen with him in this. This was also his debut film.
This film was directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. Whereas it took about 4 years to build it. The film was a superhit. The budget of the film was Rs 8 crore, while it made a worldwide collection of Rs 33 crore.
Bobby was broken due to continuous flop of films.
Bobby received the Best Male Debut award for his very first film Barsaat. Bobby’s name was included in the list of most stylish actor at that time. The situation was such that people used to copy his look and hairstyle. But after ‘Barsaat’, only 3 of his films – Gupt (1997), Soldier (1998) and Badal (2000) proved to be hits.
After this, Bobby worked in films like Kismat, Bardasht, Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyon, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Nanhe Jaisalmer and Poster Boys. But all these films flopped.
Bobby had a 30 second role in ‘Dharam-Veer’. Happy with his son’s work, Dharmendra gave him ten thousand rupees.
When films started getting beat, Bobby got drunk
There came a time in Bobby Deol’s life when he did not get any work from 2014 to 2016 due to continuous flop films, due to which he became very disappointed and got drunk. He even started working as a DJ in high profile nightclubs and pubs.
Made a comeback for the sake of children
Bobby had said in an interview, ‘One day when I saw my children, I understood where I was making a mistake. Looking at his eyes I felt that he was thinking that Papa stays at home the whole day. When I saw the same emotion in the eyes of my mother and wife, I realized that now I should move ahead. I can’t depend on anyone else, I have to move forward alone. Then I started working on myself.

Bobby Deol debuted on the OTT platform in 2020 with the film Class of 83. In this series of Red Chillies Entertainment, he was seen in the role of a police officer. After this he was seen in MX Player’s series Ashram. Bobby Deol, who played the role of Baba in Ashram and Ashram 2, received a lot of appreciation from the audience. After this, he was also seen in films like Love Hostel and Apne 2 in 2021.
The film Animal proved to be the turning point of Bobby’s career. Bobby played the role of a villain in the film Animal, released in the year 2023. His role was of 15 to 20 minutes. But everyone was stunned to see the way he played his character without saying anything. After this film, his fans started lovingly calling him Lord Bobby.
The great thing is that in his career of 30 years, ‘Animal’ is the only film which proved to be his first blockbuster. Before this, only 6 of his films had been hits. These are-Barsaat, Gupt, Soldier, Badal, Yamla Pagla Deewana and Housefull 4.

According to Sandeep Reddy Vanga, director of the film Animal, he decided to cast Bobby Deol in the film after seeing a picture of him. Actually, Bobby Deol had reached the stadium to watch a match of CCL (Celebrity Cricket League). His eyes looked very expressive in his big beard, it seemed as if he was talking with his eyes. Since the villain’s character in the film was going to be mute, this look suited him perfectly.
Seeing this picture, Sandeep Reddy Vanga had made up his mind to cast Bobby in Animal.
Bobby’s luck shines in South after Animal
After the release of the film Animal, Bobby Deol is being cast most of the time in South cinema. Recently his films Kanguva and Daku Maharaj have been released. In both these films, Bobby has been seen in the role of villain.
Talking about Kanguva, Suriya’s Kanguva is one of the most expensive films of Kollywood (Tamil) industry, made on a budget of around Rs 350 crore. However, the film flopped at the box office.
According to trade analyst Atul Mohan, the film Animal actually proved to be a comeback for Bobby Deol. This film gave a new turn to his career and the audience liked it very much. The way Bobby brought his character to life without dialogues and only with his body language and eyes was indeed a big challenge.
After this, Bobby’s demand increased in the film industry. Especially in the South Industry, where he has done some films before. There may not have been much change in his fees, but looking at his increasing popularity and the new changes in acting, it can be said that his career has reached a new level.
Atul said that Bobby Deol’s entry into the role of a villain has also proved beneficial for his image. Earlier also he had given hit films as a hero, but now he has deepened his acting in the role of villain.

Thalapathi 69: Tamil actor Thalapathy Vijay will be seen in the lead role in this film. While Bobby Deol will become the villain. It is an action drama based on Tamil politics, planned to release in late 2025.
Aashram Season 4: Bobby will return as Baba Nirala in the fourth season of the web series Ashram. Although the release date has not been confirmed yet, it is expected that this season will be released by the end of 2025.
Untitled Film: It is being said that Bobby Deol may soon be seen in film producer Anurag Kashyap’s next film. This could be a Hindi thriller film, in which Malayalam actor-director Joju George will make his Bollywood debut.
