Mumbai. Farah Khan has done choreography for many films. He has also directed many films. One of these films came in the year 2004. Farah made her debut as a director through this film. This film became a blockbuster. The film starred Shahrukh Khan, Amrita Rao, Sushmita Sen, Sunil Shetty and Zayed Khan. The name of the film is ‘Main Hu Na’. Apart from these, there was another heroine, who replaced another actress for this film. Farah told the story related to this in the chat show of casting director Mukesh Chhabra.
Farah Khan said that an actress was needed to play the role of a hot girl in the film. An actress was also cast. But when the actress’s mother started demanding, she started getting surprised. Farah told that she had to see the replacement. Farah told that the actress’s mother started demanding to stay in the same hotel with Shahrukh. Then the idea of casting another actress came up.
Rakhi Sawant played the character of a cool and playful college girl in ‘Main Hoon Na’.
Farah Khan’s assistant suggested the name of Rakhi Sawant, who had earlier auditioned for this role. Recalling the audition, Farah said, “Rakhi had come for the test wearing a burqa, which was quite shocking for a role which demanded the role of a ‘hot girl’.” But things became even more shocking when the auditions started.
Farah Khan said, “He asked my assistant to roll the camera. And then when she took out the burqa, the entire camera was shaken because she had come inside wearing a bikini.” However, at that time Rakhi was not cast immediately because of her looks. Farah Khan said, “Her hair was orange, and I was worried about how to make it work. When she reached Darjeeling, we gave her sweaters and berets to keep her cool, but Rakhi wanted more exposure. I had to explain to her that she would look good covered up too.”
Despite initial difficulties, Rakhi proved to be very cheerful on the set. Farah said, “It was great working with him. Her only demand was to be placed next to Shahrukh in a song sequence and she was happy with just that.” Let us tell you, ‘Main Hoon Naat became one of the biggest hit films of 2004 and although Rakhi’s role was small, her role in the film remains memorable.
