At the ‘Global Leadership Summit’, filmmaker Siddharth Roy Kapur talked to Adar Poonawala and Karan Johar about their deal. When asked about his responsibilities in the production house, Adar Poonawala clearly said that he will focus on the business aspects of the production house, while Karan Johar will keep an eye on its creative aspect. Karan Johar told that since he is from the creative field, the meaning of business related terms is different for him.

Karan Johar believes in making ‘great’ films
Regarding the OTT space, Karan Johar said that before starting any big budget series, he will insist on making a deal with any platform. He said that if you make a series by investing a lot of money and it does not find any buyer, then it will be a risky decision at the business level. Karan Johar said on ‘Filmmaking’ that he cannot plan films thinking about the audience. Giving examples of Aamir Khan’s films ‘Lagaan’ and ‘Laapta Ladies’, he said that superstars do not make films thinking that they will be nominated for Oscar. They only believe in making great films and the filmmaker also has the same viewpoint.

Karan Johar considers ‘content’ as king
Siddharth Roy Kapur again asked that in the era of OTT, when a lot of content is available online, how will the theater business survive? On this, Karan Johar said that there is a lot of content available, hence we have to make ‘high content films’. People are not going to watch movies just because of the star. Content matters. He gave the example of new actor Abhay Verma’s film ‘Munjya’, which earned more than Rs 100 crore from the box office. When Karan Johar was asked about his vision for the next 5 years, he said, ‘I am a filmmaker, so I want to win at the creative level.
