CCI Recalls Flipkart Investigation Report After Complaint of Xiaomi

The regulator, which monitors the compliance of companies related to competition laws in the country, has recalled the investigation report against e-commerce company Flipkart. Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi, in a complaint given to the Competition Commission of India (CCI), had said that this report contains secrets related to its business which should be edited.

CCI had investigated Flipkart for violation of laws governing competition. In this investigation, it was found that Flipkart, some of its sellers and smartphone makers have violated competition related laws. Recently, a report related to American devices maker Apple was also CCI Had taken it back.

According to two sources with knowledge of the matter and a CCI document dated October 1, recipients of the Flipkart-related report have been asked to destroy the report and give an undertaking that they will not distribute it further. This document of CCI has been seen by Reuters. Xiaomi’s argument was that in this report its sales have been mentioned in terms of models, which is sensitive information. The CCI document states that some data and information have been included in this report by mistake. Along with this, CCI has also informed about providing a new report. However, it has not been told what changes have been made in the new report. Xiaomi declined to comment on this. CCI and Flipkart did not respond to queries sent by Reuters.

In August this year, CCI had recalled the report of investigation against Apple regarding monopoly in the apps market. The company had complained that secrets related to its business had been disclosed to rivals. After this this report was recalled. This investigation against Apple was started about four years ago. This was related to the company’s alleged misuse of its dominant position in the apps market. Apple was accused of forcing developers to use its proprietary in-app purchase system due to its strong position in the apps market.
