usually But what do you do when you have cold and fever? The answer would be that we take medicines after consulting the doctor. In case of diabetes and hypertension, medicines are taken regularly. After this they become carefree saying, ‘We have taken the medicine, now there is nothing to worry about.’

In the last few months, many medicines have failed the quality test during the inspection by drug regulatory body CDSCO (Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation). This means that a medicine is not effective for the disease it was meant to treat. The side effects of that medicine can also be severe. Overall, it is not safe to consume medicines that fail the quality test. Therefore, we cannot be carefree even after taking medicine.

India’s largest drug regulatory body CDSCO has released a list of 48 medicines. These medicines have failed in the random sample quality testing conducted in the month of August. A total of 53 medicines failed in this testing, while 5 of these medicines are such which the companies have refused to accept as their own. These were fake medicines, which were being sold in the market in the name of some pharma companies.

It is a matter of concern that the medicines which failed in the test are being manufactured by the country’s renowned pharma companies like Hetero Drugs, Alkem Laboratories, Hindustan Antibiotics Limited (HAL), Karnataka Antibiotics and Pharmaceuticals Limited.

so today ‘Health Form’ We will talk about the medicines that failed in CDSCO testing. You will also learn that-

  • Why can’t we trust pharma companies and doctors?
  • Which of our habits are making us sick?
  • How can we take control of our health into our own hands?

People of India consider doctors as another form of God.

In July 2023, the then Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Mansukh L Mandaviya had said in the third convocation of AIIMS Rishikesh that the people of India see doctors as messengers of God. Therefore, it is the responsibility of doctors to make healthcare affordable and accessible to serve humanity. He also said that health in India is not a business, but a service. However, in the last few months, both these things said by Mansukh Mandaviya have been discounted.

In April 2024, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) released a survey report, which stated that 45% of doctors in India are writing wrong or misleading prescriptions. It was also revealed that doctors were unnecessarily prescribing many medicines in the prescription papers, such as Pantoprazole, Rabeprazole-Domperidone and enzyme drugs.

Now, if medicines of renowned pharma companies fail in the quality test, it means that the health of common people is being played with on a large scale.

Medicines for which diseases failed in sample testing?

Even Shelcal, a popular tablet given to children to supply calcium and vitamin D, has failed to meet the parameters of this quality test. It is manufactured by the famous pharmaceutical company Torrent Pharmaceuticals. This medicine is used extensively in small children at the time of teething, in adults having bone related problems and to protect the elderly from osteoporosis.

The list of medicines and pharma companies that failed in the quality test is so long that it is difficult to write everyone’s name. At present, see in the graphic which medicines for which diseases have failed in the test.
