Question- What kind of precautions should be taken while bathing at Chhath Ghats?
answer- In the great festival of folk faith, Chhath, Arghya is offered to the setting and rising sun. This means that Arghya is offered at the time of sunset and at the time of sunrise. For this, a large number of people reach the nearby pond or river ghats.
Many times accidents are seen due to crowding on the ghats. Last year, about 22 people had died due to drowning at Chhath Ghats in Bihar.
This is the reason why in view of the rush of Chhath Puja, arrangements are made at the administrative level for sign boards regarding deep water in the rivers, police force and ambulances to deal with emergency situations. So that if any accident occurs, it can be dealt with immediately. Therefore, always take bath at a place where administrative permission and arrangements have been made.

Question- What kind of precautions should be taken after bathing at Chhath Ghats?
answer- Bathing in a pond or river during Chhath has special significance. Thousands of people together take a dip with faith at Chhath Ghats. Nowadays, the water of most of the ponds and rivers has become quite polluted. Bathing in such water increases the risk of skin infections including eyes, nose and ears.
Physician Dr. Urvi Maheshwari tells that we should avoid bathing in contaminated water. If you are bathing in a pond or river, then take care that water does not enter the body through mouth, nose or ears. Also, after bathing, one must take bath once with clean water. This can avoid the risk of infection.
Question- What things should the fasting people keep in mind after Chhath Puja?
answer- During Chhath, fasting women keep fast for 36 hours without eating or drinking. In such a situation, there is the biggest risk of the body getting dehydrated. Apart from this, metabolism also slows down due to not eating food for several days. In such a situation, after completing a long fast, one should avoid eating too much at one go. This may worsen your health. Apart from this, things like junk food and fast food should not be eaten.
Nutritionist Dr. Amrita Mishra says that one should drink coconut water and lemon water regularly for a few days after the fast. This helps in hydration of the body. Apart from this, you can consume easily digestible food items like fruits, boiled vegetables or light soups. This will help the digestive system to gradually harmonize itself.
Question- If a person drowns in water, what measures can be taken for first aid?
answer- There are reports of people drowning in water due to crowding at Chhath Ghats. In such a situation, if there is a delay in getting administrative help, then you can help people yourself. For this follow these steps.
- If you know how to swim, then first of all pull out the drowned person with the help of a rope or cloth.
- After this, check whether there is anything stuck in the person’s mouth or nose. If something is stuck, take it out.
- If no pulse or breathing is detected, give mouth-to-mouth breathing to the drowning person.
- Apart from this, cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can also be given. This is an emergency treatment, which is done when someone’s breathing or heartbeat has stopped.
- CPR can be helpful in saving the life of a person drowning in water. By doing this the person’s heartbeat can come back.
- If the person can cough or speak, encourage them to do so.
- If the stomach of a drowned person is bloated then there is every possibility that water has entered his stomach during drowning.
- In such a situation, immediately make the person lie down on his stomach and place a pillow, cloth or any soft thing under his stomach. After this, press slowly on the lower back and take out the water.
- After getting relief, make the person lie down on his back again and immediately take him to the nearest hospital.
- For this, use whatever resources are available at the local level. Apart from this, you can take ambulance help by calling 108 or 102.
