Mumbai/Durg. actor The Railway Protection Force (RPF) detained a suspect from Durg railway station in Chhattisgarh on Saturday afternoon in connection with the knife attack on Saif Ali Khan at his home in Mumbai. The officers provided this information. The photograph of the suspect was shared by Mumbai Police with the Railway Protection Force (RPF). The suspect was traveling by Dnyaneshwari Express running between Mumbai Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) to Kolkata Shalimar.
Officials said that at present the suspect has been kept in Durg RPF post, a team of Mumbai Police has arrived for questioning, after which it will be confirmed whether the person who has been arrested is the real attacker. During initial interrogation, the suspect identified himself as a car driver and said that he drives cabs in Mumbai.
Mumbai Police later said in a statement that the detained person, Akash Kailash Kanojia (31), is still a suspect. He said that further action will be taken after verification. Mumbai Police informed RPF in Durg at around 12.30 pm on Saturday that a suspicious person was traveling in Dnyaneshwari Express.
An RPF official said that at around 12.30 pm, RPF post of Durg received information from Mumbai Police about the suspect of attack on Saif Ali Khan traveling by Dnyaneshwari Express. Also, Mumbai Police sent his photograph to RPF and also informed where he is currently according to his mobile phone.
The officer said that RPF Durg informed his counterpart at Rajnandgaon station (this station comes before Durg on Mumbai Howrah railway line) about the suspect but he was not found when the train stopped there. He said that two teams were kept ready at Durg station and when the train arrived, the suspect was found in the general compartment next to it. He was made to talk to Mumbai police officers through video call.
Earlier on Friday, a carpenter was detained because he resembled the screengrab of the suspected attacker in the CCTV footage installed in the actor’s building, but he was later released as he was found to have no connection with the crime.
Popular Bollywood star Khan, 54, was attacked with a knife at his 12th floor residence in Mumbai’s Bandra area on the intervening night of Wednesday-Thursday. The attack was carried out by an intruder who entered the house with the intention of robbery. According to the doctors treating Saif Ali Khan admitted in Lilavati Hospital, his health is improving and he can be discharged in two-three days.
Mumbai Police on Friday collected CCTV footage from a mobile phone shop in Dadar, where the alleged suspect had gone after the incident. Hasan, who works at a shop named ‘Iqra’, told PTI-Video, “He had bought a pair of earphones for Rs 50.”
The actor was stabbed at several places including his neck and spine, after which he underwent emergency surgery at Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai. Doctors at the hospital said that the actor has been transferred out of the ICU and his condition is improving. He is walking and eating a normal diet. He said that Khan is expected to be discharged in two to three days.
