Recently a girl named Shreya has shared her experience by posting a video on social media account (X).
Shreya was chatting with her relative on Instagram like any other day. Then she received a message from a relative who asked her to vote for him to win a contest. Shreya also tried to submit her vote to help, but it did not happen. After this, Shreya informed her relative about the matter on Instagram itself. The relative asked Shreya to send her email ID. An OTP will come on it, tell him that. On submitting the OTP, your vote will be cast. On this, Shreya shared the OTP received on the email.
The next day, Shreya started receiving calls from her close ones. People told her that wrong photos were being posted from her Instagram and Facebook accounts.
When Shreya tried to open her accounts, they did not open.
In fact, his Facebook and Instagram accounts had been hacked and the person who sent the OTP posing as a relative was actually a hacker.
According to a data from cyber security company Surfshark, 53 lakh online accounts were hacked in India in 2023, which ranks 5th in the list of countries around the world. At the same time, a total of 29.98 crore accounts were hacked globally, in which the highest number of accounts hacked were reported in the US.
