The National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) has made some changes regarding toll tax and fastag rules. The purpose of these changes is to make toll tax collection easier and improve traffic movement at the toll booth. These rules will be implemented from February 17, 2025 i.e. tomorrow. Every driver should know about these rules, so that they do not have to pay penalty or double tax.

It is attached to the driver’s bank account or fastag wallet. With the help of fastag, the toll fee without stopping is paid at the toll plaza. This saves time and fuel (fuel).
Question- What is the new validation rule of fastag? answer- NPCI released a circulation on 28 January 2025. According to these new rules, if the fastag remains black listed until one hour before or 10 minutes after it is read, there will be no payment. Apart from this, if the fastg balance is low or the fastag is a block, then the transaction will be rejected. On ignoring these rules, the vehicle owner will be charged double toll fee as a fine.

Question- What will affect the users with a change in fastag rules? answer- According to the new rule, if the user’s fastag is black listed and he recharges after reaching the toll plaza, he will not benefit. Returning the fastgut immediately will not make payment on the toll plaza. Also, it will be charged double toll.
So if someone’s fastag is blacklist, then recharge the fastag within 60 minutes of being read or 10 minutes after being reed. On doing this, they will not be charged double.
The total accumulated thing is that there is no use to stand in the toll plaza line and recharge. You recharge 60 minutes before the fastag reads or recharge within 10 minutes of the fastag read. This will refund the cut extra payment from your account.
Question- When can the fastag be a black list or block? answer- There can be many reasons for the fastag black list. This includes several reasons from low balance to KYC updates. Understand it from the graphic below-

Question- What should fastag users do to avoid penalty? answer- To avoid penalty, fastag users should keep sufficient balance in their account before reaching the toll plaza. To avoid blacklisting, it is necessary to keep KYC detail updates from fastag. Apart from this, one should check the status of your fastag balance before long trips. With this you can avoid extra toll charge.
Question- How much balance is it necessary to keep minimum to avoid fastag black listing? answer- NHAI has removed the rules for keeping minimum balance for fastag wallets. However, the drivers should maintain a balance of at least Rs 100 in the fastag account for their convenience. This can lead to any obstruction and penalty on toll tax. Even if your fastag is black listed, you can use toll road by paying cash. However, for this you will be charged double the fee from normal toll charges.

- If the fastag is black listed due to low balance, then recharge your fastag account.
- If KYC is not updated, contact the bank through which you took a fastag. Complete the process of updating KYC here. After this, the bank will again activate the fastag.
- Download Myfastag app. After this, go to the ‘Check Balance & Status’ section and check the status.
- Apart from this, call the helpline number 1033 of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). Take information from the bank or Myfastag app related to them. If there is a blacklist for some wrong reason, the bank can correct it.
