Difficulties are increasing for Google, one of the big technology companies, in India. The company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Sundar Pichai, has been served a contempt notice by a Mumbai court for failing to remove a defamatory video on YouTube.

a media Report According to, this notice has been issued on November 21 by the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate in Ballard Pier, Mumbai. It said that YouTube has not complied with the order to remove a defamatory video given in March last year. Dhyan Foundation and its founder, Yogi Ashwini were targeted in this video. Dhyan Foundation had also filed a contempt petition against YouTube about two years ago. In this petition, it was alleged that YouTube was deliberately ignoring the court order. YouTube is owned by Google.

Last year, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) had found Google guilty of using anti-competitive business practices. Of the more than 60 crore smartphones in the country, about 97 percent run on Android. This figure is about 75 percent for the approximately 55 crore smartphones in Europe. CCI had directed the company that it should not impose any conditions on app developers that are unfair or discriminatory.

In this case, the prosecution says that Google has maintained a huge monopoly on the flow of news and funds on websites. It makes approximately 1.5 lakh online ad sales every second. The case is important for efforts to prevent abuse of dominant positions by big tech companies. Prosecutors have said that Google hatched a complex scheme to monopolize website advertising tools through acquisitions. However, the company had denied these allegations. Alphabet, which runs Google, said that this was hindering its technology and efforts to provide service to customers.
