Ray’s films influence me
Recently during a panel discussion at IFP, Shoojit Sircar said, ‘Satyajit Ray has been my guru and I think his films have had a huge impact on my life and my films. Apart from this, I have seen many films of Oliver Stone, Fellini, Buñuel (Luis Buñuel), Mrinal Sen, Ritwik Ghatak. At that time, there was no such exhibition or distribution of these films.
His films were a source of inspiration
Putting his point forward, he said, ‘If there was any Ray film in Mumbai, it would probably have been shown in only one theater in the city. At that time, for me there was only one theater in Delhi where I could watch these types of films, be it Bergman’s films or Buñuel’s or Ray’s. Now things are different, there are many theaters where your movies can be screened, but at that time there was only one option. So I think these films were a source of inspiration for me.
If we talk about Shoojit Sircar’s work, he is preparing for his next untitled film, which will be released theatrically this year. Her upcoming film is a lifestyle drama starring Abhishek Bachchan, and is scheduled to release in late November.
