Honda to Commence Delivery of Activa Electric in February Next Year

Honda Scooters and Motorcycle (HMSI), one of the major two-wheeler companies, recently launched the electric version of Activa. The company has entered the electric vehicle segment with this. The range of this electric scooter is claimed to be around 104 kilometers when fully charged.

The company has said that the delivery of Activa e will start in Bengaluru from February next year. After this, the sale of this electric scooter will start in Delhi and Mumbai in April. Battery swapping service for the Activa e will be provided by the company’s subsidiary Honda Power Pack Energy (HEID). HEID said that his plan is to create battery swapping stations in every city before the sale of this electric scooter. The company aims to have battery swapping stations within a radius of five kilometers to increase battery penetration. HEID has 84 battery swapping stations in Bengaluru.

The company has tied up with Adani Electricity Mumbai Limited, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited to open battery swapping stations. Activa E will compete with electric scooters from Ola Electric, TVS Motor and Bajaj Auto. Its entry-level variant has a TFT display and other variants have a multi-color screen. In the premium variant of Activa E, information like battery charging status, remaining range, speed and ride mode will be available on the display. It will also have functions like turn-by-turn navigation and music controls.

The range of this electric scooter is claimed to be around 104 kilometers when fully charged. A swingarm-mounted motor has been used in the Activa E. LED headlamp is provided in this electric scooter. Japanese automobile company Honda plans to invest $3.4 billion in manufacturing electric motorcycles and mopeds. It also plans to launch 30 new electric two-wheelers by the end of this decade. The company had said that it will invest about $ 700 million by 2025 for the electrification of its motorcycles. After this, about $2.7 billion can be invested by 2030. Sales of electric two-wheelers have increased rapidly in the last few years.
