It has been 30 years since the release of Sooraj Barjatya’s directorial film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, released on 5 August 1994. This film had many big actors like Salman Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Alok Nath, Reema Lagoo. This is the first Indian film that created history by making a box office collection of Rs 100 crore in India. While it was also the highest grossing Indian film of that era.

The craze for the film was such that there used to be long queues outside cinema halls to buy tickets, where fighting was a common occurrence.

Today, on the special occasion of the completion of 30 years of the film’s release, know some interesting facts related to this film-

Sridevi was the first choice for the role of Nisha

Rajshri Productions is known for making family films. Salman Khan started his career as a hero in 1989 with the film Maine Pyar Kiya of this production house and became a hit overnight. When Sooraj Barjatya decided to make his next film Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, he gave the lead role to Salman Khan. However, Madhuri Dixit, who played the role of Nisha, was not the first choice of the makers.

Actually, Sooraj Barjatya wanted to cast Sridevi in the film. He offered the film to Sridevi, however she turned down the film due to being busy with a Malayalam film. In such a situation, the makers cast Madhuri Dixit opposite Salman. At that time, Madhuri Dixit charged 2 crore 75 lakhs for the film.

The title of the film was going to be Dhiktana

When the film was ready, director Sooraj Barjatya liked its song Dhiktana so much that he decided to keep the title of the film as Dhiktana. However, later on the advice of people, he changed the title.

The person who sold tickets in black bought 2 flats with the profit

A few years ago, the film’s team gathered at Mumbai’s Liberty Cinema to celebrate the film’s 25th anniversary. This was the same place where the film was released in 1994. During the event, director Sooraj Barjatya told that before 1994, Liberty Cinema was known for B-grade films. During that time, families were hesitant to go there. The condition of the cinema hall had deteriorated and there was no washroom there.

The director had told that they were going to screen the film in Metro Cinema. But the owner of Metro Cinema refused to do so. At this time, Nazir Hussain, the owner of Liberty Cinema located near Metro Cinema, extended a helping hand and said that he would screen Hum Aapke Hain Kaun in Liberty Cinema. At that time, the condition of Liberty Cinema was bad, so the theater owner promised Sooraj Barjatya that he would change the layout of the entire theater before the release. As per the promise, he got the entire theater renovated, installed an ultra stereo sound system and also got new washrooms built.

The film Hum Aapke Hain Kaun was such a huge hit that Liberty Cinema started being counted among the best cinemas in Mumbai. Producer Kamal Kumar Barjatya had told on the 25th anniversary that so many tickets of the film were being sold that the tickets for the whole year were sold out in advance booking. In such a situation, the current booking window was kept closed for a year.

2 flats were bought from the profit of black ticket

Sooraj Barjatya had said that there was a huge rush for movie tickets and so the sale of tickets in black had increased a lot. He said that a person selling black tickets had sold so many tickets that he bought 2 flats in Mumbai with the profit.
