New Delhi. After the Justice Hema Committee report came out, the Malayalam film industry is in the news these days. The #MeToo movement has started again regarding this. Many South actresses are now speaking openly. Stars are also constantly reacting to this report, in such a situation, now Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut has reacted and she has claimed that the industry was hiding it for ‘six years’.
10 years ago, when she appeared on Aamir Khan’s show Satyamev Jayate, she spoke about rape and item number culture, however, the situation did not change despite her efforts. In an exclusive interview with India Today, she said, “The same sexist cinema that promotes violence against women is doing better than ever. And, about this Kerala report, I have been talking for so long, but what happened to it? Nothing happened.”
Kangana Ranaut expressed her disappointment towards women promoting item numbers and said, ‘I am disappointed with women who do not promote the work of other women. These are the women who ask me why I am fighting, but what am I fighting for?’ The actress further said, ‘I have only lost opportunities.’ Sexual harassment cases in the Malayalam film industry came into the limelight after the Justice Hema Committee report was made public earlier this month. After this, many actresses alleged that male members of the industry were harassing them.
So far, 17 cases have been registered. Earlier, an FIR was also filed against director Ranjit for allegedly assaulting a Bengali actress. Meanwhile, Mohanlal has also resigned from the post of president of the Malayalam Movie Artistes Association. The actor surprised everyone by announcing his decision. He was the president of the association and had a 17-member executive committee. However, all the members of the executive committee submitted their joint resignation.
