Ishwak Singh has made a special identity in web series and films like ‘Patal Lok’, ‘Berlin’ and ‘Rocket Boys’ with his acting. Ishwak, who has adopted himself in different types of stories, recently appeared in the new version of the famous song ‘Palaki Mein Hoke Sahars’ of the film ‘Khalnayak’.
In a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, he spoke openly on his career, change in the industry and further plans.

Some changes are felt after the success of ‘Patal Lok 2’ and ‘Berlin’? Would it be called transformation or evolution?
It feels great when people like your work. When not only my performance, but the whole film or show is appreciated, then there is more happiness. Still this feeling is slowly deepening. When we are busy with work, there is no chance to enjoy full fun, which is probably good. Otherwise a person starts flying in the air. But yes, I am enjoying this moment. Every success in this industry takes you to the next point and I am living this journey completely.

Now a different type of approach is being seen from the makers?
Yes, the change has come. Now the offers are being received, they are quite different from before. When a project is successful, the makers are also confident that I can do different rolls. Whatever characters I have got, they are only because of the thinking and trust of the makers. When I did ‘Berlin’ after ‘Patal Lok’, it was completely different- anti-hero in a way. Now it will be interesting to see which character I will get a chance to play. I want someone to see me as a villain as well. (Laughing)
By the way, I want people not just to see me as a hero, but also as a villain. This will give me a chance to test differently. I want to open layers of every character. I will enjoy facing this challenge.

Have you ever been afraid not to be typical in the same character?
No, I never felt like this. Good filmmakers know that if an actor can play a role well, then he can do more characters as much as possible. I started with the theater. It is very common in the theater- a 17-year-old boy can also play a 60-year-old man. But when I started working in films, I saw that ‘Look’ is given great importance here. It was new to me, but now understood how important it is.

Which directors do you want to work with?
I want to work with all the legendary directors of the industry, such as Karan Johar, Anurag Kashyap, Ram Gopal Varma. But I enjoy working with new directors as much. The thinking and approach of new filmmakers is completely different. Working with experienced directors gives a chance to discipline and learn, while working with new directors is a different kind of adventure. They give you the freedom to experiment.
How was the experience of the new version of ‘Khalnayak’ iconic song ‘Hoke rider in palanquin’?
When I received the offer of this song, I initially took it lightly. But when he reached the set and heard the whole song, it was understood how much it is papi and energetic. The direction, choreography and setup were fantastic. The entire team had tremendous enthusiasm and as soon as he arrived, the rehearsal started immediately. The atmosphere was so cool that it was going to be a lot of fun.
