In a recent interview, Mukesh Khanna has expressed his concern over Ranbir Kapoor being cast as Lord Ram in Nitish Tiwari’s upcoming film Ramayan. Referring to Ranbir’s blockbuster film ‘Animal’ released in the year 2023, he said that his previous characters, especially in ‘Animal’, can negatively impact the image of the holy character of Lord Ram in the minds of the audience.

In a conversation with Mid-Day, the ‘Shaktimaan’ was asked about Ranbir Kapoor being cast as Lord Ram. At first he hesitated in answering this question. But then he said, ‘I will not say anything about this, if I say something then they will accuse me of commenting about everyone. He has tarnished my image. I recently commented about Jackie Shroff’s son… ‘I am not rude, but I speak my mind. Referring to his performance in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana, he said that if he is making Ramayana, then it is natural to be compared with Arun Govil.

Mukesh was then asked if he thought of any other actor who could play the role of Ram, to which he said, what Arun Govil did with the role creates a gold standard. I would just say that whoever plays the role of Ram should be like ‘Ram’ and not like ‘Raavan’. If he is petty and a hooligan in his real life, it will be visible on the screen. If you are playing the character of Ram then you should not party or drink. But who am I to decide who will become Ram?

‘Shaktiman’ also told that Prabhas had tried to play this role, but the public did not accept him, even though he is such a big star. The reason for this is not because he is a bad actor, but because he does not look like Ram… The actor who is now playing the role of Ram is the pride of the Kapoor family. He is a good actor… but I will look at his face and he should look like Ram. He has just done the film ‘Animal’, and his negative image was highlighted in that film. I hope this doesn’t affect this role.
