New Delhi. Filmmaker Ashutosh Gowarikar is known for making films like ‘Lagaan’, ‘Jodha Akbar’ and ‘Swades’. He has been appointed Chairman of the International Jury of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) this year. He said that he feels honored to be a part of it.

According to news agency IANS, Ashutosh Gowarikar expressed his happiness and said, ‘Cinema is continuously evolving with time and there can be no better platform than a film festival to see its evolved form. The International Film Festival of India is a symbol of this change and I feel extremely happy and honored to be a part of it.

He further said, ‘I express my gratitude to the film festival director Shekhar Kapur and the IFFI team. Who has chosen me to be the president of the international jury. It is a privilege to join the world of cinema.

Shekhar Kapoor praised Ashutosh
Festival director and IFFI president Shekhar Kapur praised Gowariker, saying, ‘The president should have a deep understanding of cinema and also be able to look at diverse perspectives. Ashutosh’s films have successfully portrayed wide and multiple forms of storytelling on screen. We are grateful that he has accepted to be the President of the International Jury at IFFI this year.

The festival will run from 20 to 28 November
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will host the 55th International Film Festival of India in Goa from November 20 to 28. Ashutosh Gowarikar has made a distinct identity on both national and international platforms. This time, a total of 15 films including ‘The Goat Life’, ‘Article 370’ will compete for the Golden Peacock at IFFI. The line-up features 12 international and 3 Indian films, each selected for strong storytelling and artistry.

Ashutosh Gowarikar will lead the jury
This year’s Golden Peacock jury is headed by Ashutosh Gowariker and also includes Singaporean director Anthony Chen, British-American producer Elizabeth Carlson, Spanish producer Fran Borgia, among others.
