ISRO said in a post on social media platform X that this is a historic moment. The space docking process was one of the key goals of ISRO’s SpaDeX mission, launched late last year. This capability is necessary for future human and space missions. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated the ISRO team on this major success. He said, “Congratulations to ISRO scientists for the successful demonstration of space docking of satellites.” Modi said this is an important step for the country’s ambitious space missions in the coming years.
In docking, an active vehicle flies under its own power and connects with its target. India now plans to build its own space station. The name of this station will be “India Space Station”. It can be established by 2035. Preparations are being made by ISRO to make the Gaganyaan mission successful. ISRO has started assembling Human Rated Launch Vehicle Mark-3 (HLVM3) for this mission.
This is the beginning of the first uncrewed mission under the country’s ambitious Gaganyaan Human Spaceflight Mission. ISRO has started assembling the S200 Solid Rocket Motor with stacking of its nozzle end segments. HLVM3 is specifically designed for human spaceflight. This is an advanced version of the LVM3 rocket. Its height is approximately 53 meters and weight is approximately 640 tons. This three-stage rocket can carry a load of about 10 tonnes to low earth orbit. It also includes a Crew Escape System (CES) to ensure safe ejection of the crew module in case of any disturbance during return with a human-rated design. ISRO is also preparing to launch an American communications satellite. With this satellite, phone calls can be made directly from space. This will be a more innovative and modern method of communication than the existing satellite telephone services.
