India Blocks 17,000 WhatsApp Accounts of Foreign hackers

Hacking cases have increased rapidly in the last few years. Some companies have suffered losses due to this. Apart from this, in such cases there is also a risk of leakage of sensitive information. The central government has also taken measures to curb this problem. In this series, the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Center (I4C) and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) have blocked at least 17,000 WhatsApp accounts of foreign hackers.

CyberDost, the cyber safety handle of the Ministry of Home Affairs, has launched a Post Told that its goal is to destroy foreign criminal networks and increase the digital security of the country. The post said, “I4C, in collaboration with DoT, has blocked at least 17,000 WhatsApp accounts of cyber criminals in Southeast Asia. The aim is to break foreign criminal networks and strengthen the country’s digital security.”

In May this year, the Ministry of Home Affairs had formed an inter-ministerial committee to tackle the rise in organized cybercrime from South East Asian countries like Cambodia, Philippines, Laos and Myanmar. About 45 percent of cyber financial frauds in the country occur from South East Asia. These crimes have become more complex and larger. Due to this the victims have to suffer a lot. I4C has taken several steps to destroy the infrastructure these hackers use. I4C investigation has revealed that cyber criminals are using investment opportunities, games, dating apps to lure people into their trap. Offers cryptocurrency and fiat trading platforms. They often trap people through social media.

Apart from this, the youth of the country are sent to Cambodia with the promise of jobs and there they are forced to commit cyber crimes. Recently, in one such case, some Indians who were protesting in a city in Cambodia were arrested. The government had made efforts to bring these people back safely. The focus of I4C is to deal with cybercrime issues with people. This involves coordination with various law enforcement agencies.
