In the second quarter of this year, shipments in the international smartphone market grew by 6.5 percent. Samsung Electronics and Apple have a large share in this market. However, demand remains weak in some markets. In the second quarter, South Korea’s Samsung has secured the first position with 18.9 percent share.

American devices maker Apple is in second place with 15.8 percent market share. China’s Xiaomi (14.8 percent) is in third place. According to data from market research firm IDC, this is the fourth consecutive quarter in which international shipments of smartphones have increased. Nabila Popal, Research Director in IDC’s Worldwide Tracker Team, said that there is enthusiasm in the smartphone market. This is indicated by high average selling price and artificial intelligence (AI) features in smartphones. He said, “Apple and Samsung have maintained their dominance in the upper part of this market. Both these companies will benefit more from the increasing popularity of premium smartphones. Many Chinese smartphone companies are busy increasing their share in the low price segment.”

Last month, Apple showcased new AI features for iPhones at its developer conference. Last week, Samsung also announced new AI features with its new Galaxy fold and Flip smartphones. Apple’s iPhone 16 series may be launched soon. The iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max of this series can get better wired and MagSafe wireless charging speeds than the iPhone 15 Pro models introduced last year.

According to a report by ITHome, the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max will have support for 40 W wired charging and 20 W wireless charging using MagSafe. The iPhone 15 series featured a USB Type-C port. However, both the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro had support for a peak charging speed of 27 W with a compatible USB charger. The company claims that all variants of the iPhone 15 series can be charged up to 50 percent in 30 minutes using a power adapter of 20 W or more.
