American company Apple will launch the iPhone 16 series in the global market including India on September 9. It may include four models – iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Along with the features and operating system of the iPhone, its camera is also discussed the most.

While Android smartphones focus on providing cameras with the highest megapixels, iPhones provide cameras with fewer megapixels, which take better photos than smartphones with 200 megapixel cameras. In such a situation, many people will have a question in their minds that what is it in iPhone cameras that makes it shoot better photos and videos despite fewer megapixels?

To understand this, firstly we need to know the basic information about camera…

All smartphone cameras are made up of three basic parts. The first is the lens that directs light into the camera. The second is the sensor that converts focused photons of light into electric signals. And the third is the software that turns those electric signals into photos.

  • Phone camera lens: The lens of a camera focuses light and guides it to form an image on the sensor. The quality and design of the lens determines the quality of the image.
  • Shutter and Aperture: The shutter opens and closes the lens in front of the sensor. The shutter speed determines how much light hits the sensor. The aperture controls the amount of light that passes through the lens.
  • Camera sensor : The sensor converts the light coming from the lens into a digital signal. This light is divided into pixels, and these pixels collect data about the color and brightness of the image.
The aperture determines how much light reaches the sensor. The most light reaches the sensor at f/1.4 and the least at f/16.

  • Image Processor : The image processor (ISP – Image Signal Processor) processes the data received from the sensor. It adjusts color, contrast, sharpness and other image properties.
  • Autofocus: In autofocus, the camera automatically focuses on any subject or person. Focus can also be adjusted manually with the help of camera apps.
  • Stabilization : Optical image stabilization shifts the lens or sensor to reduce camera movement.
  • Software and Camera Applications : Software and camera applications control the efficiency of the phone’s camera. This includes various modes, filters, and editing tools.

Cameras with larger sensors produce better photos in low light Sensor quality, size and lens technology play a vital role in the overall performance of a camera. Larger sensors can capture more light, which in turn captures better details in the image. 1/2.55 inch, 1/1.7 inch, 1 inch etc. are the measurements of sensor size. Larger sensors usually provide better low-light performance and sharpness.

More megapixels do not guarantee better image quality

More megapixels (MP) means more details, but it also comes with sub-quality and size. Cameras with more megapixels can capture more details in photos, but it doesn’t always guarantee better image quality.

How is the iPhone camera different from that of an Android phone?

iPhone The camera of a phone differs from that of an Android phone in many ways. This includes hardware, software, and image processing technology, among other things –

  • Sensor Technology: Apple usually uses high quality custom enhanced sensors that provide image quality and color accuracy. In budget and medium budget phones, companies use different sensors due to cost cutting, due to which the photos are not good even after having more megapixels.
  • Lens and aperture: Apple’s lens design and aperture size are usually developed specifically for low-light performance and to reduce distortion. In Android phones, the lens quality and aperture side varies according to the brand and model. Cost cutting is also done here in medium budget Android phones.
  • Software and Image Processing : Apple includes technologies like Smart HDR, Night Mode, and Deep Fusion that improve image quality. High-end Android phones also have powerful processing features, such as Google’s Night Sight, while budget and mid-range phones have varying quality of processing.
  • Video Capability : iPhones are popular for their video recording capabilities, including 4K recording, Dolby Vision HDR, and excellent stabilization. Except for a few special phones, Android devices do not live up to their advertising claims.

Keep these 5 things in mind before buying a good camera phone

  • Camera sensor quality: To buy a phone with a good camera, special attention should be paid to the camera sensor. The camera should have a large sensor as well as a high aperture so that good pictures can be taken even in low light. Along with this, it should have other modes like image stabilization, autofocus, portrait, night, HDR, panorama.
  • High resolution option: High resolution is very important for the quality of both photos and videos. For video recording, the phone should have features like 4K, 8K, slow-motion and time-lapse.
  • Battery Life and Charging : There is a lot of battery drain while using the camera, so the phone should have good battery life and fast charging. If there is fast charging, the phone will charge quickly.
  • Software and Processing : The phone should have the latest software, which will improve your overall phone usage experience. Only when the phone works well will you be able to use its camera properly.
  • User Reviews and Professional Reviews: Before buying a phone, you should check its user reviews and professional reviews. Check the reviews with the photos taken from the phone so that you can get an idea about the image quality and performance of the phone.
