Apart from this, some people are getting such messages regarding income tax returns, in which it is being said that there is a lack in their documents. A link is also given in such messages, on which people are being asked to complete the required documents by clicking as soon as possible.
There are many benefits of filing income tax return and every taxpayer wants to take advantage of it. People click on this link in a hurry. Doing this can be dangerous because in most cases these links are related to cyber fraud.

Question- Has the last date for filing income tax return been extended?
answer- Many messages are going viral on social media, claiming that the government has extended the ITR deadline to August 31. However, the central government and the Income Tax Department have rejected these claims.
The Income Tax Department has clarified that these claims being made on social media are completely misleading. There is no truth in this.
Question: What kind of scams are happening in the name of income tax return refund?
answer- Cyber criminals are taking the help of income tax refund to cheat people.
Actually cyber criminals are sending fake messages to people. These messages are something like this-
“Income tax refund of Rs 15XXXX has been approved in your name. This amount will be credited to your account soon. Please verify your bank account number 5XXXXXXXXX6755. If the bank account number is not correct then go to the link given below and update the correct details of the bank account number.”
Now an advisory has been issued by the Income Tax Department regarding this, in which it has been told that all such messages are fake. Do not click on the link given in the message because by clicking on the link you can become a victim of a scam. Therefore, there is a need to be careful and alert about such messages related to income tax return.

- Do not share any of your financial information on any email or message related to ITR refund. Be cautious if there is a link in the message. Such messages are sent by cyber criminals for phishing attack.
- If an unknown email is asking for PAN card number, Aadhaar card number, bank details or personal and financial information, then never share such information. Keep in mind that the Income Tax Department or banks never ask for such information over the phone or email.
- To check the refund status, visit the official website of the Income Tax Department only.
- To avoid any kind of fraud, enable two-factor authentication (2FA). This involves entering the password first, then using the OTP sent to the smartphone, fingerprint, or facelock.

- The Income Tax Department may need additional information from you.
- There may be some delay in refund due to discrepancy in tax calculation.
- Difference in bank account number and name details at the time of filing tax returns can also be a reason for delay.
- Form 26AS summarizes all taxes paid under your PAN. If there is a mismatch between the TDS details in your return and Form 26AS, it may delay your refund.

answer- Follow these steps to check ITR status on the e-filing tax portal.
- Official website of Income Tax Department https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/ Login to .
- Log in to the account using your PAN or Aadhaar card number as user ID along with your password.
- After login, go to the ‘e-file’ option on the homepage.
- Go to ‘Income Tax Returns’ under the ‘e-File’ column and select the option ‘View Filed Returns’.
- Check the latest Income Tax Return submitted for the Financial Year 2023-24 corresponding to Assessment Year 2024-25.
- Click on ‘View Details’ to view the status of the ITR filed and any relevant details.
