Mumbai. The teaser trailer of Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina starrer ‘Jigra’ was launched two days ago. Alia’s intense and action avatar was seen in it. It shows the story of a sister who is trying her best to save her brother who is imprisoned in a foreign jail. There are many twists and thrills in it. After so much appreciation of the film’s teaser trailer, it has been revealed that this film is an adaptation of a 1993 film. This film was directed by Mahesh Bhatt.
The name of this 1993 film is ‘Gumrah’, which starred Sanjay Dutt, Sridevi and Rahul Roy. The film was produced by Karan Johar’s father Yash Johar. According to Bollywood Hungama, a source said, “‘Jigra’ is an adaptation of the 1993 film ‘Gumrah’. It starred Sanjay Dutt, Sridevi and Rahul Roy. It was the story of a man who goes to any extent to save his lover, who is a prisoner in a foreign jail.”
The source said, “The makers of ‘Jigra’ decided to remake Gumraah, but with some changes. The two biggest changes they have made to the original story are that here the girl is saving the boy. Secondly, they are brother and sister instead of being lovers.” The source said that both the films are from Karan Johar’s production house Dharma Productions.
The source said, “Getting the rights of Gumrah was not a problem. It was made by Dharma Productions, who also produced Jigra. Just like Dharma Productions remade the 1990 film Agneepath in 2012 with Karan Johar starring Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra and Sanjay Dutt. Interestingly, Gumrah was directed by Mahesh Bhatt and now his daughter Alia is playing the lead role in its adaptation.”
