Kangana Ranaut’s film Emergency is mired in controversy. The film was scheduled to release on 6 September, however, due to protests and petitions filed in different parts of the country, the release of the film has been postponed. The censor board has ordered the removal of controversial scenes from the film, however, according to Kangana Ranaut, the film will be released without any cuts. The actress has said that she will fight in court and release the uncut version, as she does not want to change the facts.
Kangana Ranaut recently expressed her displeasure over the ban on the film in Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast and said, keep making the same old-fashioned story of a boy and a girl romancing behind a tree. Today we are scared of this, tomorrow we will be scared of something else. Then people will start scaring us. We keep getting scared of everything. How long will we be scared. I have made the film with all my self-respect, so the censor board is not able to point out anything. They have withheld my certificate, but I have decided that I will release the uncut version of the film. I will fight in the court and release it uncut. I cannot suddenly show that Indira Gandhi died in her house by herself. I cannot show it like this.
When Kangana was questioned about the death threats she was receiving, she said, I think I never thought that people would target me to this extent. I made my film under the guidance of 4 historians. Some of them are so proud that they even went to jail during this (Emergency). I had also got approval. There are many things for us to think about that how can someone run the system today by keeping people at gunpoint. If we kneel before this, then what is our future?
Further, the actress said, this started from Maharashtra. People abuse women and there are no bad consequences of this. All kinds of abuses are being heard from Punjab as well. When people get a free hand. When nothing happened with abuse, then the matter came to slapping, then kicking, then burning alive. You see that when they get a free hand, their courage is increasing. The government should take action on this. Such barbaric people openly give threats, this is the truth of the country.
On the question of being afraid of threats, Kangana has said, I have said earlier that people can make your condition worse than death. This is my job. I have done it with so much hard work. Four days before the release, you are forcefully stopping the film without any reason. This too is causing a great damage. I cannot believe that in this country, in today’s era, in the era of social media, we are facing this.
Protests against the film took place in Mumbai
On Sunday, the Sikh community protested against the film outside the Gurudwara located at 4 Bungalow in Mumbai. The Sikh community alleges that historical facts have been distorted in the film. The Sikh community has demanded that the film be completely banned and strict action should be taken against Kangana.
Jaspal Singh Suri, who led the protestors, said, ‘Kangana should go everywhere and apologize. She has called the Khalsa sect terrorists. She has called the farmers who were on hunger strike for their rights terrorists. If she does not do this, then her coming days will be very bad. The consequences will be very bad.
She has made this film to incite fighting between Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs. If this film is released, there will be riots and massacres everywhere. This is an act of getting beaten up and she (Kangana) will get beaten up.’
Let us tell you that the film Emergency is based on the tenure of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, when the Emergency was imposed. Kangana has played the role of Indira Gandhi in the film. Actors like Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Shreyas Talpade are in important roles.
