There has been a stir in the Malayalam film industry since the Justice Hema Committee report came out. Meanwhile, on Sunday, National Award winning filmmaker Ranjit Balakrishnan resigned from the post of chairperson of the Kerala Chalachitra Academy.
Recently, Bengali actress Srilekha Mitra had accused Ranjit of misbehavior. The filmmaker had denied these allegations but despite this, Ranjit has resigned from the post of chairperson two days after the allegations were made.
Ranjit is a well-known filmmaker in the Malayalam industry. He has won the National Film Award three times.
The case is from the year 2009
Actress Srilekha Mitra, while speaking to the media on Friday, had accused renowned Malayalam filmmaker Ranjith of misbehaving.
According to the actress, Ranjeet tried to touch her inappropriately during the audition of the film ‘Paleri Manikyam’ in 2009.
‘I had gone to meet him at home in connection with the film’
While talking to the media, Mitra had said, ‘I had gone to meet Ranjit at his house in connection with a film. There were a lot of people there and Ranjit was talking on the call to a cinematographer with whom I have worked. He asked me if I wanted to talk to him (cinematographer) and then took me to another room.’
51-year-old Srilekha Mitra has been active in the Bengali film industry.
He took me to the bedroom where it was dark: Srilekha
The actress further said, ‘Ranjit took me to the bedroom where it was dark. While I was talking to the cinematographer on the phone, he (Ranjit) was standing next to me. He was playing with my bangles and touching my skin. I felt uncomfortable but I thought that maybe I was thinking too much. He just wanted to see my bangles.
‘He tried to play with my hair’
After a while, when he realized that I was not reacting and was not removing his hand, he tried to play with my hair and neck. After this, I came out of the room. I was not shocked. I know how work happens in the industry. There are both good and bad people here.
Ranjith has worked with many big actors in the Malayalam industry, including Mohanlal (right).
Ranjit said- she wants to take advantage of the controversy
Ranjit has also reacted to these allegations of Srilekha. The director said that Srilekha had come to him for a film audition. At that time, filmmaker Shankar Ramakrishnan and others were present in that flat. Nothing like what she said had happened there.
We just did not like her performance and we told her clearly. She is trying to take advantage of this controversy. If she takes legal action against me, she will get the same answer.
