Mumbai. The personal life of actress Moushumi Chatterjee, who spread her beauty and acting skills in the 70s, is no less than the story of a film. After marriage at a very young age, she entered Bollywood. The actress is also known for her sense of humor. Moushumi Chatterjee, born on April 26, 1948 in Kolkata, worked in the Bengali film ‘Balika Badhu’. When she was in 10th class, she was married to Jayant Mukherjee, son of famous Bengali singer and producer Hemant Kumar Mukhopadhyay. Moushumi’s childhood name was Indira. His sister named him Moushumi for films. The actress had shared a very funny anecdote in The Kapil Sharma. He told that during the shooting of the film Poisonous Man, a snake had come out on the set. She had caught the snake with her hand, when her husband threatened to divorce her.
Actually, actress Reena Roy also came to the show along with Moushumi Chatterjee. Kapil Sharma asked a question to Moushumi whether she had any desire to do films like Naagin. On this Moushumi said, ‘I have caught the serpent with my hand. I was shooting the film Jahreela Insaan with Neetu Kapoor around 1974. A snake came out on the set. I caught it with my hand but Rishi Kapoor started screaming after seeing the snake. My husband was also there at that time. Rishi Kapoor said loudly, ‘Babu! Look Moushumi has caught the snake with her hand. My husband was taking bath at that time. He came out wrapped in a towel and came close to me and said, ‘Leave the snake, otherwise I will divorce you.’ I said that it will be okay but I will not leave the snake.
Moushumi Chatterjee ran away from the sets of her first Bengali film ‘Balika Badhu’ twice. Narrating the entire story in his own words, he said, ‘I felt very emotional the day before the shooting. I was very happy and felt that I was a big heroine. The next day I felt that while I was playing, someone was braiding my hair and someone was applying makeup on my face. Wore petticoat and blouse. When I asked, he said he needed a shot. I said ok. Then I looked outside the set and saw a bus standing. I wore a saree, wore a nose ring and boarded the bus with the same make-up. He asked for a loan of four annas from the passenger sitting next to him. Left for Bhawanipur. My aunt was a judge in Bhawanipur. Everyone was afraid of him. I thought the film people would not reach there.
He made more revelations during the show. He told that ‘Rajesh Khanna could not remember the dialogues whereas Shatrughan Sinha could remember the biggest dialogues. His ability to remember was amazing. Firoz Khan was the most stylish hero. Vinod Khanna was very handsome in terms of physique. Shammi Kapoor and Shammi Uncle also looked stylish. Earlier heroes looked like heroes. Girls used to come to the sets the most to see Rajesh Khanna and Vinod Khanna.
Moushumi also narrated the story of the shooting of the film ‘Rimjhim Gire Sawan…Sulg-Sulg Jaaye Man’. He told that during the shooting he was brought from the hotel in a car. On Mumbai rains, Moushumi Chatterjee said, ‘I don’t like Mumbai rains that much. It lasts for an hour or two but the daily routine gets affected. Then the maid and cook do not come. We actresses have to cook home food. This is how we become heroine housewives.
