Maruti Suzuki’s entry level hatchbacks Alto K10 and S-Preso have now become safer cars than before. The company has made Electronic Stability Program (ESP) feature standard in every variant of both the cars.
With this, ESP feature has now become standard in all the cars included in Maruti Suzuki’s lineup. Apart from this, standard safety features in both the cars include dual front airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), reverse parking sensor, collapsible steering column and engine immobilizer.
Prices not increased after feature update
After this update, the company has not increased the prices of both the cars. The starting price of Alto K10 is Rs 3.99 lakh (ex-showroom), which goes up to Rs 5.96 lakh for its top-spec AMT model. At the same time, the starting price of S-Preso starts from Rs 4.26 lakh and goes up to Rs 6.12 lakh. Both compete with Renault Kwid in this price range.
This is how the Electronic Stability Program works
The Electronic Stability Program controls the vehicle during rapid braking and prevents it from skidding and keeps it in the correct position on the road. The ESP system is integrated with the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Traction Control System (TCS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC).
This system uses several sensors to measure the car’s movement. It then calculates this data with the help of an electronic control unit and maintains the vehicle’s stability and control by applying brakes as needed and limiting power output.

Engine and Transmission
Talking about performance, Alto K10 and S-Preso get a 1-liter three-cylinder petrol engine, which generates 67hp of power and 89Nm of torque. For transmission, the engine is available with the option of 5-speed MT and 5-speed AMT gearbox.
Both cars also have the option of CNG with this engine, with which this engine generates 57hp of power and 82Nm of torque. For transmission, only a 5-speed MT gearbox option is available in it.
