Dadasaheb Phalke Award will be given to Mithun Chakraborty this year. Recently Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has made its official announcement.
It has been announced on Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav’s official We are proud to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to give this award to legendary actor Shri Mithun Chakraborty this year for his iconic contribution to Indian cinema.
Mithun Chakraborty will be given this honor at the 70th National Film Award Ceremony to be held on 8 October 2024.
Did more than 350 films, won 3 National Awards
Born on 16 June 1950 in Kolkata, Mithun Da has done more than 350 films in different languages like Bengali, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Odia and Bhojpuri. Has won the National Film Award three times and the Filmfare Award twice.
Mithun Chakraborty received his first National Award for his debut film ‘Mrigaya’. Got the second National Award for Buddhadev Dasgupta’s Bengali film ‘Tahader Katha’. Mithun played the role of freedom fighter in this film.
The third National Award was received for the film ‘Swami Vivekananda’. Mithun played the role of Ramakrishna Paramhansa in this film. This film could not be released in theaters due to some reasons. It premiered on Doordarshan. Mithun Chakraborty has been awarded the Padma Shri in January 2024.
Mithun Chakraborty had 19 films released in the year 1989, in which he was seen as a lead actor. This record name of his was registered in Limca Book of Records. It has been almost 35 years since this happened, but till date no actor has been able to break this record. The 1982 film Disco Dancer is the first film of Hindi cinema to earn Rs 100 crore.
