Question- What is motion sickness?
answer- Motion sickness is not a disease. It is just a condition in which the central nervous system of the body gets confused. When the body is sitting still at one place, but it is also moving due to sitting in a vehicle. In such a situation, the brain gets confusing signals whether the body is still or in movement. This can happen when sitting in a car, plane, bus or ship. Some people can also become victims of virtual motion sickness (VMS) while playing video games and virtual reality games.
Question- Why does motion sickness occur?
answer- When our body is moving, the brain receives signals from the eyes, joints and the inner part of the ear about the position of our body at the moment. But when there is a disturbance in the signals of any one of these three or there is no coordination, then the brain is unable to recognize the movement properly, which leads to motion sickness.
Understand it like this, during travelling, the things around us appear to be stationary to our eyes, whereas when we look out of the window, everything appears to be moving. Similarly, the inner part of the ear and the muscles feel that you are sitting still, whereas the eyes feel that you are in movement. Due to receiving two different types of signals, the brain gets confused. This is the reason why we feel nausea, vomiting or dizziness.
