Sunita Williams is the commander of the Expedition 72 mission, along with her space station companions Alexey Ovchinin, Butch Wilmore, Evan Wagner, Don Pettit, Alexander Gorbunov and Nick Hague. Actually, the reason for seeing 16 sunrises is related to the ISS’s rotation in the Earth’s orbit.
The International Space Station completes approximately 15.5 revolutions around the Earth in a day. It revolves around the Earth at an average speed of 28 thousand kilometers per hour. It is present 400 kilometers above the earth’s surface. The space station takes 90 minutes to revolve around the Earth. Sunita Williams left for this mission in June on the Boeing Starliner spacecraft. He had to return after 8 days. But due to technical glitches this mission kept getting longer. Now Sunita Williams will return to Earth in March 2025.
